Wi-fi USB adapter driver download problem

I had to make a clean reinstall (factory setting) of my desktop Acer Aspire 3400. I used a USB wlan adapter. Unfortunately, I no longer have the paper with the USB adapterīs makers name or type number etc. All thats printed on the miniscule usb is 802.11n.

Not knowing ( Iīve forgotten it, it was very long time ago I installed it) the maker or type number, I cannot download the driver. Is there any way I can find out the name of the maker and type? Or do I just have to throw the USB adapter away and buy a new one?

Hi oscer 1. Whatever I do, I canīt get the hardware unit (802.11n USB wlan) adapterīs ID. Everywhere it says type unknown, producer unknown. Or do I do something wrong? The only information I can get under "problem units", where it says: 802.11n WLAND Adapter and the PNP unit ID :USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8176\OOED...... ,but I doubt it is of any help.

Iīve checked the USB Lan prices in my electronics shop and they are exorbitant. on Ebay I can get a USB adapter, but itīs from Hong Kong with 2 - 6 weeks delivery time and I doubt my wife will have the patience with me using her PC for such a long time, so I hope a solution can be found.

Problem solved, just our of curiosity I "yahooed" the PNP unit number and surpise - got the producerīs name and product type - Realtek RTL 8188.CU. However, finding the download took about 3 hours with plenty of yahoong and googling, Realtekīs download page is useless for downloading not current software. Anyway, I eventually managed to find adownload and at long last the USB adapter is working again. Thanks you oscer1 for directing me to the right path!
