Using higher model HP driver for Compaq Presario V2000

Last week I checked the HP site and found the listed laptop models table for windows 7 drivers. From there I also found out that HP will make drivers for windows 7 that are listed on the table and for those models that are not listed HP will not make any driver. My Compaq Presario V2000 is not listed on that table. Be extra careful using a higher model HP driver on your Compaq Presario V2000. The driver for mass storage controller of Compaq Presario V2000 can be found in SWSetup folder that works with windows xp and it works well with windows 7 too 'cause after re installing it thru windows 7 it says, you have the best driver installed and is updated. After solving the issue on mass storage driver I sorted all the problems with compatibility on my synaptics touch pad, logitech quickcam, updating other drivers and did the disk cleanup to remove the old windows folder and old program folder which gave me a 5GB after the cleanup. I did the performance test and the result was good than the old test. Windows 7 works well with my old Compaq Presario V2000 now. I also have a new Dell laptop and windows 7 works well too.

HP - USB devices not installing drivers on windows 7

After hours and hours of trying to figure out why my USB drive was not working on windows 7 I finally figured out what happened. Not sure how it happened but rumor has it that some vista driver changes this setting in the registry. The issue is the default directory for the drivers has changed. For those that want to check before editing registry
    1) open device manager
    2) you can right click on the unknown device and choose "update driver software"
    3) select "browse my computer for driver software"
    4) in the path choose "C:\Windows\inf"

If this does not find the driver and fix your issue then it is not the registry.

If it does fix it then check here in registry

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    Expanded string value: DevicePath
It should include this path "%SystemRoot%\inf" (without quotes)

Mine was changed to C:\inf which was invalid.

Also, after fixing this I had to manually choose the driver location for devices that had issues. But tested new devices and they loaded up correctly after this registry was fixed.

I hope this helps someone, I lost close to 8 hours trying to figure this out...

The link to Toshiba is perfect!! I have been researching this for a few hours and I must say "thank you, kaycee54321!!" I have an older sony vaio vgn-cr190 (bought it in 07) with Vista 32 home prem. My wife dropped it a few weeks ago and the hard drive is not booting up. I went out and bought a new Dell laptop to replace it and was ready to ebay the broken vaio. Then I figured I would fix it. So I got a larger gb hd and the next step was OS. I did not have the reinstall CDs and didnt want to even spend $35 from sony to get em. I got Win7 32bit Pro and installed it. Everything went great and the computer seems to be faster than before. (Im using it now) Only a few quirks, media card reader didnt work, volume buttons inop and webcam is not working. Sony does not offer driver updates for the vgn-cr190 to Win7. The link above fixed the media card reader.

    Sony Mass Storage Controller VGN-NR330E

    Got a Sony VGN-NR330E Laptop
Installed Windows 7 x64 (Vista Upgrade)

Problem: Device Manager has a unknown Mass Storage Controller driver missing
    Cure: download.xanderx.com/software/windows/driver/CardReader_V.zip
    Xandrex CardReader_V.zip contains 06PCMIA x86 & x64 bit drivers

I also downloaded all Vista x64 and XP x86 drivers from the Sony website.

Most Sony drivers are really useless software. Some Sony Vista drivers will install in the Vista
    compatability mode.
Sony does notlabel their drivers with version numbers so its a real pain to install the latest correct drivers.
Fortunately Win 7 has most of the drivers you will require.

    Googler,
your best bet is to simply go on the sony suport [online] type in your modle number and all availble drivers and utilities will be listed and availible to download for free. It worked for me. Minty
