Possible to get and activate MCOMM32.OCX for Windows 7 X64 in 2016?

Hello,

Ok, so I have software that requires the communication port to work to transfer settings from the PC to an external unit. I have last used this piece of software in Windows Vista, some 6 years ago. Then it worked.

Now I'm on Windows 7 and get a run time error 339 "component MSCOMM32.OCX" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

I've looked through this thread, and on the web, on this subject but most stuff is not current, As far as I can see most posts refer back to 2009-2011. However, it looks like MSCOMM32.OCX was the basis for ActiveX backdoors, viruses, malware. So need to install from Microsoft only, no third party stuff. Couldn't find the MSCOMM32.OCX file with Msft.

I checked if I had it. Nope. I do have some ActiveX *.ocx files installed in the SYSWOW64 folder.

Then I saw, get Visual Basics, because MSCOMM32.OCX is embedded in there, and possibly patched (?). As listed here: ActiveX Control File Names

So went for the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update. Didn't work.

Somewhere it said ActiveX *.ocx files can be had via Visual Studio instead. So got the 2015 express version. Nope didn't help.

So is there a way to get this MSCOMM32.OCX working without putting the PC at risk?

Thank you samuria. Since this was a backdoor I don't know whether originaldll.com is safe. There must be official ways to get it.

Windows Update and Office 365 and 2016
A week or so ago I saw somewhere the MS had issued security fixes for Office 365 and 2016. I just checked Windows Update and found 7 updates none of which seemed to apply to Office. I have set up Updates to get updates for Microsoft products. Have I missed something? Thank you.

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load....
