Unknown Device - Compaq 6735s Laptop

Hoping somebody can help, I have installed W7 onto my HP/Compaq 6735s and picked up all the drivers except one "Unknown Device".

I have downloaded all drivers from HP and tried to install them all, however the unknown device still remains, any ideas?

    Much appreciated

Go to device manager>right click on the device>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id copy and paste the device string. Fabe A Preferred Method of Uploading/Posting Screen Shots

    Hi Jam,
Have you tried updating the driver via device manager, perhaps letting windows search for the driver.

Also any error code that is accompanied in the device manager would be helpful as well.

    I did a W7 install on a Compaq 6720s the other day.

Same problem as you describe OP. However if you look at the codes you can dig out of device manager against the unknown device, and Google them, then you may find it's something as minor as the button-key driver (which controls the customised buttons for screen brightness, sleep, ext' monitor, etc, etc...)

Memory tells me the unknown device in my case turned up under network adapters in the DM window, which was obviously down to W7 'guessing' wrongly what it was.

If it is an Unknown Device than chances are that you won't even get a DEV and VEN ID from Device Manager...

If he does post one...I can tell him what it is and hopefully provide a working driver for it
