Diagnosing REMOVABLE-MEDIA available in BIOS and memory card (SD card)

Who uses their computer is to upload, edit and store pictures from their camera(s). This is a feature of Windows 7 that you are able to do that, right? What would happen if suddenly this feature went, and you were unable to continue using your computer to connect via camera lead?

That is, instead of Autoplay selecting what to do when the media device and USB cable are plugged in, you get this sound:

Windows Hardware Fail --> (Device Failed to Connect).
The device(s) still charge via USB. But the Windows does not respond to the device connection.

This has happened to me, and these are a few things that I have already tried:

different devices that accept SD cards (memory cards). The symptoms are the same whichever device are connected.
as Auto Play remains unresponsive, I check Windows Explorer, and I am instantly disappointed to discover that the SD card via card reader device has not display in the Computer folder.
switch to another user profile.
try a different computer with Windows 7.
I also tried DISKPART, LIST DISK (from cmd prompt).
then I tried BIOS (legacy BIOS), and that showed REMOVABLE MEDIA displayed in list of connected drives when the camera lead connected.

You said you tried a different computer running windows 7, If it still did not work I would say that it is dead.

Hello sml156 , what do you know? I said I tried a different computer ... yeah <daft>, device works on different computer ... yet many device not work on my problem computer. Otherwise I would be inclined to agree with you. So, what could be the explanation?

I would go into device manager and see if there are any yellow triangles on the USB, I would probably try to update the drivers first and if that does not work I would uninstall the USB's and then restart the computer and hope that that fixes it.

You may not want to uninstall the USB stuff because it may brick your computer, Probably not worth it for a USB drive.

I'd be happy if Device Manager showed a yellow triangle beside the driver. There wasn't, so I was unable to respond with that sort of information.

Eventually, I downloaded and ran Kaspersky System Checker and that reported two USB problems: One problem regarding a memory stick volume "Error using the VxD loader (Code 19)", while problem two was USB printer disabled. I remedied both these problems and now my camera is being detected by the Auto Play and Explorer again!
