    Re flashing the BIOS

A simple question. I have an Asus P8Z77-V board and to cut an extremely long story short I have done all the testing ans canning that I can think of and on advice am trying to set the boot to a legacy BIOS setting because the board can either or.

Now the option for that has now disappeared and I have no idea how it has come about and the only thing i can think of is to flash the BIOS with the current version to see if I can get back a) some normality in the machine function and b) the setting for Legacy only boot.

Any suggestions I would be most appreciative of because I really am at the end of my tether with this machine.

Gooday to you too long time no see :) Ok mate I will have a look though I have had some success little as it maybe - I think MBAM is conflicting with Kaspersky I know from old KISS doesn't like working alongside it but the machine is still not 100%.

Sounds like it`s time to open the window and heave that board like a boomerang.

Just hope it doesn`t come back.

Yep mate I have come very close to it at times. Now I was advised by Shawn to boot from legacy BIOS only (the BIOS has three options EUFI & legacy/ legacy only / EUFI only) and to clear all services in msconfig tab - after hiding the Microsoft stuff of course and I started adding the services back one by one starting with Kaspersky - no problems however as soon as I added MBAM all hell burst forth and I thought I would gladly throw a bucket of water into the machine because after ten clean installs and heaven knows how many clones I was am still am to some extent walking on eggshells.

Then it came as a revelation to me that MBAM when you install the free version it does for two weeks run real time and I remember a long time ago when they offered a free copy that as soon as I installed it Kaspersky went ape. So this time I uninstalled MBAM and the machine settled back into some sort of normality that is I can post in the forum at least because by the time I type to here this reply would have vanished by the time I got to "no problems however etc etc "

Now the other issues were emails and that as I typed them up it would suddenly pop up " leave this page or stay or something to that effect I was advised to disable the JavaScript in IE11 options and as yet it hasn't happened mind you I have only just got round to sitting down for a spell so I cannot say for sure it is fixed.

Now as I said I ma still walking on eggshells but am hoping this issue is almost fixed because I have spend so many hours over the last month trying all sorts of scans tests etc etc to no avail. So here's hoping. I won't miss MBAM because to be honest it never really picked up much in any case SAS I find the best.

You could try just using MSE for a bit. Uninstall Kaspersky and give it a week.

I run MBAM and MSE and never had any issues.

Yes I did mate but I ma not a real fan of MSE and like I said MBAM has never picked up much for me in the past anyway.

I could just disable Kaspersky I suppose but right now the machine is running somewhat normally though and knowing my luck as of late I have jinxed it by saying that.

    @ Brian.

I have suggested MSE and Malwarebytes in Johns other threads but he insist on using Kaspersky.

Ok Jack I will try MSE on that machine but I will not do any financial stuff on it.

By the way the damn thing crashed again last evening after beginning to look like my old machine was back - even throwing three BSOD's - and after I had realised that Kaspersky does not like MBAM running real time from way back when MBAM was giving away free full copies of the program and that is when Kaspersky went ape. Because the MBAM runs real time for a trial period I haven't seen it let you uncheck the trial version this time.

Ti still remains why just that machine while my others are running fine. It just seems to be an issue with hitting a key and the time it takes to open say a atb and also anything i type just does not hold until I have finished which makes me think something is quite wrong with some input and output control.

So I am reinstalling again this afternoon an a going to avoid updates as they seem to lso wreck any install I have going reasonably well. I am also going to try out a Ubuntu install and see what happens in it. On the good side my son is letting me have his old AMD build running 7 to tide me over until a I am suspecting I rebuild that machine with new gear something that I don't find very appealing regarding the rot that is going on with the Kabylake stuff and what it will run and not run so it leave s me with Skylake only because out here the choice is VERY limited now the chance of me getting anything earlier than Skylake is exceedingly slim.
