    Canon MP780 driver install

I can't seem to get my Canon to install correctly on W7 x64. I've tried running the installer as Admin, without UAC, and in compatibility mode.

Any ideas how to manually install the driver as I extracted the driver files but don't know how to apply them.

    Thx!

I still can't get my mp780 working. I think win7 autodetected it as mp780FAX but not printer. I tried installing the vista64 driver from canon's website, which ends up unable to detect the printer port. Any help?

I'm having the same problem: perhaps QuadAllegory could describe exactly how he solved this issue.

Solved my Canon MP780 Printer problem.......easy as just trying another USB port! Plugged the printer and the driver files downloaded from the internet and all was well; duh!

Solved. I found that windows 7 had already installed a mp780fax driver. It did not go on to install a printer driver. As described above in the first few posts, go to start menu, devices and printers, and click add printer.

    1. Choose " add a local printer" then in "use an existing port" drop down menu, choose one of your "virtual USB ports".

    2. Click windows update and wait (it has to download and update the list of drivers which took a long time, like 20 min or something, and it won't tell you if it done updating or only partial, so be patient).

I guarantee their is a canon MP780 printer driver - used it myself. DONE! (Don't bother with drivers from canon website, won't work)

Check to see if W7 already installed a driver - often there are multiple drivers for certain printers, such as fax, scanner, printer. I think sometimes it installs the wrong one and the printer doesn't respond to it. Try uninstalling this driver and reinstalling the drivers manually as described in my post above. Or allow windows to redetect your printer after uninstalling the current driver and disconnecting/reconnecting the usb. I recently formatted and reinstalled W7 on the exact same machine and it detected my printer with no issue whatsoever. Its kind of fickle like that.
