ORICO 2.5 inch USB3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure (2578U3)not seen

Hi

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650 Laptop, I have just upgraded from
Win7 32 to Win764, the external hard drive (as shown in the thread title)
that I used when using Win7 32 is now not seen in Explorer or Disk management,
the light is coming on so I guess there is power to the drive, there is no external
power, just USB.

I figure I need a driver but cannot find one on the Orico site, does anyone
know where I can find one or have any ideas on what I could try.

Thanks

Daniel

This would sound more like a problem with the Win 7 64bit install than a problem with the external drive.
Check the Device Manager for possible problems (errors). Possibly the motherboard chipset drivers were not installed.

EDIT/Added: There can be an issue with USB 3.0 ports in Win 7 unless the special driver is installed.

Hi

thanks for your reply, the only problem in device manager was the keyboard was not configured
so I uninstalled it and restarted and it came good.

"There can be an issue with USB 3.0 ports in Win 7 unless the special driver is installed."

Can you please explain what this is all about, what special drivers?

Cheers

Daniel

Do you have a USB 3.0 port in your PC?

Hi

sorry about the delay in replying, I have been having a lot of trouble with Updates and
have had to repair my install and start again.

First let me say that I cannot get any sense out of the Toms Hardware site, I tend to keep clear
of TH because that is the usual result, obviously my logic is lacking because it seems to be very
popular.

The USB 3 ports on my Laptop are working with another External drive I bought last week,
I just plugged it in and W7 found the new hardware and it fired up.

I tried searching again for a driver but to no avail, I'll just give it up as a bad investment,
The store I bought it from is many hours from here.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers

Daniel

Hi again

so what I did in the last five minutes is I plugged the cables into the Drive then plugged
it into the USB a couple of times and nothing happened, I unplugged the cable from the
Drive and plugged it into the Drive again and BINGO "New Hardware Found" came up
and all the data is there and copying over. Go figure...

In the end a good result.

Cheers

You may have a bad cable. I had that happen with an external dock in the past. replacing the cable fixed the problem.

Also, what kind of cable are you using with the enclosure. HDDs require a fair amount of power to be able to run. Some HDDs, especially faster ones, require more power to run than others and some USB ports do not put out enough power to run some drives. The USB 3.0 ports on one of my notebooks didn't provide power (even though the standard is they are supposed to) to reliably run my 7200rpm 2.5" WD Blacks and I had to get a double ended USB 3.0 cable (the cable on end has two USB Type A connector sthat plug into two USB ports (one is for additional power only) to avoid occasional dropouts.

Hi

the connector that goes into the enclosure is the type with kink in it, that's not very techy
but I do not know the type name.

The drive is now working well and is as fast as any powered external drive I have.

I think it is a SSD.

SSDs require far less power than an HDD so, if it is an SSD and you have any problems in the future, try replacing the cable before condemning the enclosure or the drive.
