I have a disk with most drivers but not all would install. I need drivers for the following:
PCI serial port
SM Bus Controller
Not sure if I need an ethernet controller because I can connect to the internet.
Went to Dell website, but they wouldnt accept my Service tag which I copied from the side of my computer. Don't know if there was a fluke on their site. I tried about 5 times and the Service tag wouldn't submit.
Any help would be appreciated.
You don't need service tag to d/l drivers from Dell.
Just use a search engine and enter e.g. dell optiplex windows 7 drivers
Then just enter a keyword ( optilex 3020 or whatever your model is) Then select the Operating system.
Drivers download list will appear below. Example :
"PCI Serial Port" sounds like a card that is installed in the computer which provides a serial port. If this is the case, then you could look at the card to get the manufacturer and model number from the card, then look on the manufacturer's web site to get the driver.
In case they don't have a Windows 7 driver, try the Vista driver. If no Vista driver, try the XP driver.
You probably know this already, but be sure to power down the computer before removing the card to look at it; be sure to touch the computer case with both hands, to get the static electricity out of your hands; and be sure to handle the card by the edges, being careful not to touch the gold tabs.
List what the OptiPlex model number is and what form, e.g. small form factor, desktop, etc.
