Welcome to Windows Seven Forums, jpgundersen!

I am typing this on my Dell D505 with 7 Home Premium. I am using the graphics driver for Vista from the Vista installation DVD. Here is a link to another post where you might get the file if you do not have the Vista DVD:

    https://www.sevenforums.com/91001-post52.html

To install this driver, create a new folder on the C: drive
and copy these files to the Dell folder

Right click on the desktop and open Screen Resolution

    Graphic driver - Dell D505-dell_d505_02.png

Click on Advanced settings, then Properties

    Graphic driver - Dell D505-dell_d505_03.png

Select the Drivers tab, then Update Driver

    Select Browse my computer

    and browse to C:\Dell

Windows 7 should update the video driver from this file.

Before you reboot, according to the link posted at the top of this post,
you should go back to this screen and select "List all Modes"

    Select resolution 1024 X 768 at 256 colors.

Reboot your computer and set your screen resolution to 32 bit colors.

Please let us know if this works OK for you?

    Cheers!
    Robert

    need some help

    Hi there,

I've got the same problem and trying to get this to work. However it wont...
After i installed the new driver, and followed further instructions, i reboot.

After the reboot windows tries to install the display driver again by it self. It then installs two display drivers; Standard VGA and the one from dell.
After this it loads a webpage where it says that it cannot install the required display driver because windows 7 needs directx 9 and my video card doesn't support directx 9.

Im working with a dell latitude D505, tag number 252vb1j

I have tried uninstalling and disabling standard VGA and also tried installing the driver with the older version.

Can anyone help me?! Thanks for the support!

Hello Dangsu, and welcome to Windows Seven Forum.

You may have to tell your computer which video driver YOU want to use. Do this by right clicking on the desktop, click "Screen Resolution", "Advanced settings", "Properties", "Driver" Tab, "Update driver", then browse to the INF file in the gm855 folder where you put the gm855 video driver and let it install. Hopefully this will get your video working correctly.

    Cheers!
