ok i went thru the steps again and i it now says that it wont work because my video card dosnt support directx 9.
sounds like a load of bs to me....
But im back to vga standard.
I am a bit confused by your answers, now. Yes, if you choose to "Search for and automatically update Driver Software" you will get that message. That is why the instructions in the second post say to "Browse" for the driver, what is sometimes referred to as "manually". You need to browse to the folder (the suggested location to extract the zip file is C:/Dell) where you unzipped the driver files and select the file ialmnt5.inf
That loads the driver only. Again, just as I did, you may also need to use the "Advanced Display Properties" to select the specific file again before it will work.
You do not want the Standard VGA driver.
You do not want the Dell driver.
You need to install the Intel 855GM Vista driver to have the better screen resolutions.
I do not know why you are having DirectX error messages. I did not have any issues with DirectX with my D505 Laptop. The driver worked fine with the version of DirectX that Windows 7 installed.
Cheers!

thanks for you reply.
ok here what i did, step by step:
-unzipped files to c:\dell
- screen resolution; advanced setting: properties; update driver; locate and install driver manually.
- i select the folder c:\dell (because i can only select a folder, i can not choose a specific file...)
- i now get the message that the best driver is already installed
after this i tried the xp driver. Same path. This driver does install but after reboot it goed back to the standard VGA ans gives a pop solution screen where it tells me that my video card doesnt support directx 9.
thats about it...
Hi every one, I tried the protocol above and it does not work with my dell latitude d 505 how can I do to solve my screen resolution witch is settle at 640 X 480?
Thanks!
