roland TD11 driver (cd) install problem

hi, hope this is in the right section, my problem is im trying to install my roland TD11 driver (cd) for connecting my electronic drum kit on my laptop (windows 7, 64 bit, i5 processor, 4gb ram) so i can use ezdrummer 2 but each time i start the install a pop up window appears saying "a problem may have occurred, to install the driver, please execute uninstall.exe (located in the same folder as set up.exe), and then execute set up.exe once again".i follow this and it asks me to restart pc to complete the uninstall which i do then try install again and exactly the same thing happens?? i contacted roland uk who suggested downloading the driver for my system which i did and tried installing and exactly the same thing happens as with the cd driver install, same pop up window, same message. i then tried to install the cd driver on my daughters laptop which is older than mine and it installs first go??( id use hers only the headphone jack and speakers are doomed) i done as roland suggested turning off anti virus and my account is administrator even though my daughters laptop isn't administrator and it installed, suggests a problem with my laptop maybe? so my question is can i install the driver any other way, maybe connecting my TD11 to my laptop first before driver install or does anyone know why my laptop is giving me this message, has anyone come across this before, very frustrating and im officially freaked out now any help would be really appreciated man!

In most cases drivers are installed first. If you connect the device first, either the install will fail or Windows will install an incorrect driver. I have a recording studio and all my audio and MIDI devices that are not "plug and play" require the driver to be installed first.

Do you have a System Restore point that is BEFORE you first tried to install it. If you do, restore back to that point, as that should give you a "clean" install path. Try installing as Administrator (even if you are the Administrator. RIGHT click on the install icon and select Install as Administrator. Many times something that won't install will with this method.

Did you unzip (extract) all the files to a new folder before trying the install?

Can't really offer anymore. I'm through with Roland. I had a Roland/Edirol MIDI keyboard and Roland refused to issue Win 10 drivers and I had to buy a new MIDI keyboard (not Roland) that is Win 10 compatible. I have a Roland Octa-Capture recording interface unit and the small headphone out board went bad but Roland wouldn't sell me that small separate board, I would have had to buy a complete set of circuit boards (main board and the small "daughter" headphone I/O board).

thanks for the reply fireberd i tried all you said and still got the same message, i had a few restore points but not as far back before the attempted install. will a factory restore help me? though a lot of backing up first 😩 got me baffled this it was so simple to install on my daughters laptop, one more thing when i uninstall to try reinstall it seems the driver doesnt uninstall properly the progress bar goes quater way then disappears though it cant be found anywere in programs or files

strange roland would not issue you a win 10 driver i noticed they do win 10 driver and update for most modules, must have been a pain not being available for your midi keyboard you think they would have any driver for any product, thanks again for the help 👍🏻

I would hate to think a "factory restore" would be needed. Quite a hassle in most cases.

Try starting Win 7 in Safe Mode and then try to install, to see what happens. If something that runs with the normal startup is causing the conflict, maybe it will install. Not sure what else to suggest, except if you uninstall (or as it seems partially uninstalling) make sure you restart the PC before attempting to install again. If you just uninstall and then try to install the same problem can arise.

Roland has deemed the entire Edirol line "obsolete" and won't write Win 10 drivers. Roland drivers for many devices were the same for each OS except for one line of code that designated the OS. If they had general drivers as many others do it special Win 10 drivers wouldn't have been needed. There are many older Roland products that did not get supported for Win 10 and that was a hot topic on several recording forums when Win 10 came out.

done all that and still the same message and even phoned a pc repair shop and they wont touch it they said it could take days to diagnose and cost me loads, suspected they might say that �� factory restore after backing up i reckon though im reluctant about that .

What I would do in your case, if you want to try a clean reinstall, is to use a different hard drive (or SSD) to install Windows. Save the current drive in case it fails. Only install Windows and PC drivers, nothing else. Then try installing the Roland software. If it still will not install you still have the original hard drive with all your programs and data and reinstall it.

sounds to much work that lol which reatore i meant was repeatedly tapping f10 on start up and choosing to restore back to origional factory settings, not sure about doing it having to reinstall windows. i done an f10 restore on my daughters old acer aspire 5551 which was playing up and it done it without having to reinstall windows? what is the difference between the two restores im not sure you see, also ive read i could restore using my assist button on my sony vaio though never done that before, really wish i could install the driver without all this as tons of back up required.

I would still think the better way is the new hard drive as I mentioned. It saves your installation you have now in case the Roland driver still will not install with the clean Windows install. A small hard drive is a relatively cheap way to go. Maybe $45 or $50 but still a relatively cheap alternative.

fireberd, thanks so much done as you explained using my external hard drive and what do you know DRIVER INSTALLED FIRST GO

only thing is now some of my files and folders backed up on one of my external hard drives wont copy back to my pc saying youll need permission to copy files to this computer??
