Printer stops functionning after W7 updates

I always thought that updates were made to solve issue and not create them but hey!!! wtf. My pc is running on W7 x64 and my printer is a Brother HL-3040CN. I install updates whenever Windows offering them. I dont know exactly when the printer stops working since I rarely use it but it not more than a month. I tried reinstalling the drivers but get this message: The printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drive, and If you know thw manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check support section for driver software.

I've look at Brother's website and the driver they're offering is the original one dated 09/26/2011 so that has not solved anything.

Some will probably tell me to restore to an earlier point but being the person I am, I do a system image every saturday to be safe and only keep the last one. So if I try to restore from an earlier point, Windows will keep those image back-up in priority (it present me a list but in fact only the last one is really active) and not every restore point that it create every time it update something so I can't really use this option.

I did some search prior this thread but all I got was playing with reg folders which I can't say I'm confortable with.

    I'm open to suggestion

You didn't say if it is a wired or wireless printer.

You gave me a doubt...one month ago I did replace my graphic card because the old one sometimes gave me blue screen at start-up so yes probably the printer hasn't been pluged into the same usb port. I did tried a couple other combination but no...no change
