Another CSR8510 A10 Bluetooth problem thread

Hi all

I have been spending the past week research high and low on how to get my USB bluetooth working. Nothing seems to work.

So far, I have tried using the CSR 4.9 CD software. It installs fine. The dongle connects fine. I am actually connecting my laptop to the bluetooth radio in my Sienna. Getting connected isn't a problem. But getting audio is. My audio player plays audio over the bluetooth listed in playback devices. And you can see it happen. But the car radio is still silent. I can even pause and play my windows media player using the car radio buttons. So the remote feature works.

I installed the software on Windows 10 and the dongle worked perfectly. With audio. And the thing is, when I went to pair, the passkey box popped right up. But in Windows 7 this does not happen. I have to actually go into properties and services to get it to appear. But I don't believe that detail is important here, since I get connected without doing so. Anyway. I hate Windows 10. So I am trying desperately to get it connected in Windows 7. I tried downloading various other CSR Harmony drivers on this forum and other places. I have even tried just using the Windows 7 bluetooth drivers. And it seems like it would work if I could overcome the "unknown peripheral device" problem. I have gotten the COM port drivers to install. But I have to remove the bluetooth device to re-pair with the radio. By then the COM port drivers vanish and have to be reinstalled all over again. So I am running in circles.

All in all. My problem is getting audio. I got audio one time in Windows 7. And when I did, it showed STREAMING AUDIO on the screen of my car radio. Since then it shows nothing but the bluetooth symbol showing I am connected. The two COM ports are both shown as incoming. That may not be relevant.

I would much appreciate any help I can get with this. I got it working once. But not twice. And I didn't do anything different.

Just want to post here saying I got it working....finally. And I don't remember seeing this solution posted anywhere else on the Internet. So, if you use a CSR chip based Bluetooth adapter, then this solution is for you.

Let me mention that the CSR drivers worked on Windows 10. But not on Windows 7 x64. I tried everything. As a last resort, I decided to plug the adapter into my old Toshiba laptop and see if it connected. IT DID. And worked perfect. Turns out it connected using the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack program. So I researched and figured out that the program works with CSR (and others) by default. I was able to find the program online and it installed right on my HP laptop. And it detected my adapter without a hassle and works perfectly. So the Toshiba stack works 1000% better than the CSR or Windows stack.
