Asus Zenbook Flip 15 - Windows 7 - missing drivers
Hello everyone!
(Sorry for the long story)
PREFACE
Coming to this forum is sort of a last resort for me, as I can usually solve my problems alone after searching through the internet, but this time I'm really stuck. I tried installing Windows 7 on a Windows 10 laptop (Asus Zenbook Flip 15 UX561UD). Of course, being a new laptop with new hardware, it officially supports Win 10, but not Win 7. Initially after the install, only the keyboard and the screen worked (no usb, wifi, not even the touchpad, so I had to use the numpad (!) as a mouse; as you can guess, it's horrific), but I have managed to get the USB 3.0 driver (so I could use a mouse), the WiFi driver, plus after having gone thru hell I've managed to get the Intel Graphics Driver working which supposedly only supports Windows 10 (with a little hack, because it too didn't want to cooperate with Windows 7).
HOWEVER, there are some devices that still don't work, including:
- Touchpad - the official ASUS precision Touchpad driver gives an error and refuses to install + I've installed like 4 different Synaptics and 2 Elan touchpad drivers to no avail. On Win 10, there's apparently a Synaptics SMBus driver, but it isn't on Win 7
- Touchscreen - it's a HID touchscreen, no official drivers, ASUS support said it's included in the chipset driver, but on the ASUS website there's only an Inf Installer utility under the "Chipset" category. I've tried what seemed like a chipset driver from the DELL website, but it didn't do anything...
- LOADS of other missing drivers, including about 10 HID driver (system controllers, I2C devices + a lot of generic ones), UCSI USB driver, a few Unknown devices etc.
I've tried:
- ASUS official drivers: the ones I need won't install
- Driver Booster's driver backup and restore function, which could only restore a few drivers, kind of useless
- DoubleDriver, which backed up ALL of my drivers on Windows 10, but when restoring on 7, it's almost like I did nothing. It did seem to install drivers (as it complained about them not being signed), but, the devices still don't work, nor do they show up in Device Manager
- SDI (Snappy driver installer), which found a few Intel drivers and updates, but touchpad, screen and HID devices still don't work.
I can give error codes and descriptions and device info if needed.
ANY help is greatly appreciated, whether it be the correct drivers, troubleshooting tips, hacks, anything. Basically what I want is to make Windows 7 fully functional on this laptop.
Thanks,
R
