My USB ports on this Gigabyte mobo are SUPPOSED to be all USB2.0
So, how come I still get "This device can run faster" messages in
my Win7 64 bit home premium installation?? I went to Gigabytes webpage and installed the chipset drivers for Win7 on there, but still get the same message when I plug in my Corsair 4GB jumpdrive.

The only thing i can think of to try is to make sure your chipset drivers are up to date. This is a weird problem. I know that USB 2.0 support was included in the sp2 pack for win XP and subsequent OS should already contain and support 2.0
Tried that already. Went to Gigabyte's website & downloaded the latest chipset drivers dated 8/5/2009 from Intel. Still the same.... Although some of the ports show that the driver is from Microsoft and the date is 6/1/2006. Still should work.... No matter which port I plug the jumpdrive into, I get the message. I tried to copy 3 GB from the jumpdrive to the HD and it came up saying it would take 1 day. WAY too slow!! The jumpdrive is formatted to FAT32 as recommended.
Try turning off USB Legacy support in the system BIOS, and make sure you are also running the latest available (F6) BIOS release...
OK, an update. I disabled Legacy USB in the BIOS with the same results. Apparently my jumpdrive is bad.. It's a Corsair 4 GB. I also have a Lexar 256 MB jumpdrive that doesn't give me the "device can run faster" message. I think I damaged the Corsair jumpdrive when I plugged it into a motherboard that used a different type of USB interface. It got kind of hot, and I yanked it out. Later found it still worked, but with this problem. So, now I'm in the market for a new jumpdrive. Moral: Watch those motherboards that have what looks like a USB header that connects to another board. Don't try to connect that header to the ports on the front of your case. You'll burn your
jumpdrive like I did.
I think we'd all presumed you'd tested more than one device in your USB ports before posting this 'problem' here LOL... but regards your comments about USB motherboard header dangers, what harm can 5 volts do to USB devices which are built to run at this voltage?
This was a proprietary computer that had sub-boards for USB, sound, & video connected to the mainboard via these connectors. Obviously, they are not standard USB ports. When I mounted the mobo in another case that had front USB ports is when I got into trouble.
