    However ...

The best place for drivers would be Microsoft or Dell, as you have most of your drivers it would suggest that they are not available from Microsoft.

Best to try Dell (your local office would be best or www.Dell.com, you are best served if you have all the information on your laptop to hand, Serial number and ID Code as well as the full model number.

I did take a look and it appears that the latest drivers were for Vista back in 2008 against your generic model, which may still work, as the low level graphics subsystems are mostly the same, although not all.

However the graphics is I believe based on an Intel or nVidia chipset so may be available directly from them.

nVidia have an online tester that may help ID the chipset and drivers, I would imagine Intel would have similar

My bad, assumed that might get assistance here since am not a member there yet. I'll create an account there too.

    Thanks.

Thanks again, Vista 64 bit Dell driver fixed the resolution to default.
This nvidia 7950 GTX runs hot, can't find a 64 bit i8kfangui31 CPU/GPU fan control that works well with Dell laps but only 32 bit one...

    Thanks again!

unfortunately there was a lawsuit involving certain Dell laptops with some nVidia graphics chipsets that ran hot.
your XPS M1710 (not 1710) was one of the affected models

I also noticed in the screenshot of device manager that there are also yellow exclamation marks on "Base system device" - this can easily be resolved by installing the Ricoh memory card or Ricoh card reader drivers found on the Chipset section of the XPS M1710 driver downloads page.

Thanks for the info. Mine is an XPS 1710, initially got a XPS 2010 that was slower than a Pentium 1, returned it and got this from Dell.

Its card has been fried twice, this is my 3rd one. Than one intelligent member suggested to use this fan app that works well with Dell laps including XPS 1710. It can easily integrate with the system BIOS and take control making CPU/GPU etc fan changes custom.

Yes those bases devices are the Ricoh card ones.
