Can i assign a local port for my usb type printer

Hi, my printer is working , no problem. But the port, it default uses usb 0001 as a port for the pinter to work. It is i think a virtual port.
can i change or assign a local port to my printer, which is older model deskjet printer. say LPT 1. Just going to the properties and change the port to lpt in the shown ports do not work.

Would you give me how to do it.
Should i do something more to get it to set loocal printer

After making your routine OS partition full image backup onto external media, make a couple of SRPs (System Restore Points), and experiment changing ports with your printer. You brought memories of my earlier LPTx days :)
[I am not certain if having a couple of registry backups is helpful or not in this specific situation.]

Usb 0001 is a virtual port for USB and should work when the printer is plugged to a USB Port, it could be that you have to set Enable/Activated LPT1 port in your motherboard Bios.

There appears to be a misunderstanding as to what a virtual usb port for printer is.

A virtual usb port for printer allows you to configure a USB port to interface to LPT or COM interface in older software. So, if you had old program that only printed via LPT. You could use a virtual usb port for printer to connect your usb printer to the lpt interface found in the old software.

If however, you have a RS232 device that you want to connect to a USB computer (ie most modern computers), then you use a virtual USB COM port.

The two are distinctly different, and are not re-wording of the same. Virtual USB port for Printer makes a software connection, whereas Virtual USB COM Port makes a hardware connection.

    Hi all
i do not think that it involves this much working.
    But, one thing sure,
the first reply where , Roland has given to create sr points and tryings.
When i go to the printer existing port tab, in printer properties, and select lpt work and tried , theprinter just stays where it is and doing nothing.
But when i change it to default usb001 port, virtual one, the printer do the printing.

of course, when i connect it automates the driver process from window updates and the printer is working.
why it is not working when i change the port. the printer icon does not show any yellow, but no printing.
    could you explain.

Hi, printer drivers for hp is more than 100 mb. i want basic driver for hp deskjet 2130, which will not get hp annoying alerts and popup of ink level low etc.
Default drivers from window updates by default selects usb virtual port, causing unwanted popup and alerts
I just want a basic driver to print and nothing more and nothing less

Because you are using the wrong kind of virtualisation.

The hp deskjet 2130 is USB 2, so you do not need LPT. LPT is for obsolete parallel port driver interface, which that particular printer does not support.

Hi, i have just changed the usb cable to the printer. Previously , the same printer takes lpt port only for printing, and the method is the same, when connected the drivers were installed, but the port was lptwhich is a printer port.
what is the actual difference that it takes the usb port on changing the usb cable. Does this has anything to do with the change of cable connecting the printer and the computer usb port
Virtual port, what is it , is it different from physical port like back of the computer.Hi, iko, could i expect a reply

Plug your printer from USB cable to computer port and go in Devices & Printers see if the printer is set to default. Verifiy again which check box are checked in the properties of the printer. Maybe uncheck LPT and leave USB 0001 and try again to print

Hi, do you mean change the port of the usb at the back of the computer

Now , the connection is the same as from the back of the printer to the usb port in my computer.
am i miss something , hi, non
when i change the port to lpt from default usb port, it accepts , but does not print
I have just installed all the printers in device manager and also the lpt1 port from com and port.
i just restarted the computer and it automatically installed the drivers from windows updates.
the port it selected by default is virtual usb001 port.
Does virtual port any different from lpt post or i could just carry one with it.
Just changing the port in properties , does not work, but creating more printer icons.
now also i am using the printer copy 2 , as itself shows.
can i change , or need not
which settings would help me stop unnecessary alerts from the hp
i do not find any hp status exe in my computer
