It didn't work instead it crashed my pc.
Could I have picked the wrong one?
Just gone to the NVIDIA website and it says I have an out of date motherboard driver - updating now
...and it didn't work - crashed my pc once again

Have you tried the drivers in safe mode?
If your system won't run 64 bit properly, and you're sure you have both updated your BIOS to the latest, and set all the individual BIOS options up optimally, then just go back to an x86 environment...
