Acer Apire can't connect using Windows 7

I bought the Win 7 3-pack to get rid of the XP problems on my 3 computers. The first thing I did was to installed it on on my Acer Aspire 5000 and can't establish a connection to my DSL service. AT&T and Microsoft say it is a problem with the Acer drivers. Acer will not consider my problem without paying them for Tech Support. I'm not terribly technical but have identified the hardware as a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter and a SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. Since I can't connect, I downloaded the latest Broadcom driver using another computer and transferred it to the Acer on a CD. Win 7 says it already has the latest driver. Win 7 also says there is no Ethernet Adapter installed but, when I boot in XP, it installs. Is there any hope? (I'm using a Speedstream 5100 modem with the router bipassed.)

    Already frustrated with Win 7.

So, just to clarify, from Device Manager does Win7 indicate a problem (yellow triangle) with your network adapter?

No, it does not but it does with the Ethernet Controller and Multimedia Audio Controller.

And yet when you try to update the drivers(for network or sound) from Device Manager, Windows reports your current driver (which is not operating) is better?

Since I can't access the Internet from this computer when in Win 7, I've had to find a driver on my own using another computer, put it on a disk and point to the cd drive when it's looking for a driver. The drivers I've been able to find are judged by Windows as being no better than what's being used. I have no way of Windows searching on line on its own.

Are there any Win 7 certified drivers on Acer's site for your laptop model? What is it?

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5000. I have not been able to find any Windows 7 drivers for any of their laptops on their website. Acer is unwilling to discuss the problem without a fee. I don't understand the attitude of the manufacturer since there must be thousands of other users out there with the same problem. They did say that "a local computer service person could fix the problem." The Windows 7 setup link in your message doesn't help much since I can't connect to directly search for drivers or update. The independent "driver detectives" don't do me any good for that same reason.

    Thanks for your input.
