    driver / updates / SP1 issue with Windows 7

    Hey everybody,

I am new to this forum
I am struggling with an old laptop (Thinkpad T400), which I want to use for music. It is running under Windows Seven GT (Grizzly-team) but in order to install the driver for my sound card, they say it first requires this update kb3033929, and I am reading from here that this update requires SP1, which Seven GT doesn't have.
I need help figuring this out.
Which iso of Windows 7 should I install to not be bothered with drivers installations ?

    Thanks for your pointers.

Just install the service pack. Where you get that from I don't know. Hopefully someone here will chime in with that bit of Info.

I did not even think about that. thanks. However as windows update is deactivated in this Seven GT version, do you think it is possible to install the service pack 1 ? If yes, how ?
    Thanks

It appears the Lenovo Thinkpad T400 laptop was introduced in 2008 and came with Windows XP 32-bit.
It has pretty weak hardware specs, so I do not know how well you will get Windows 7 SP1 32-bit to run in it.
You may also run into issues for obtaining compatible drivers for all of its devices.
What is the exact serial number on yours?
What is the exact Windows version on its C-O-A sticker?

in that specific case, OP needs to upgrade the hardware (especially RAM) first before upgrading from XP to Win7

see this old lenovo forum topic on "thinkpad T400 Ram Upgrade"
    English Community-Lenovo Community

some old Thinkpad T400 models can have RAM upgrades that max out at 8Gb

forget about the KB3033929 update, LouisJJJ. the newer KB4474419 update supersedes & replaces the old KB3033929 update. install KB4474419 update instead.

thanks guys for all your inputs, very useful. I have managed to install 7 SP1 and it seems to work fine, except for a glitch in the display (as I am trying to sort out here: Windows 7 display issue: blurry and messed up images and fonts - Super User)
