    Formatted and need help.

    Hi.
    Here's my problem :

1- I had vista and installed(format) Windows 7 on my computer.
2- I installed W7 on my master HD which is ACER(C).
3- During the installation it asked me to boot my computer and I choose the first HD of the 3 I have listed in the boot menu(I thought it was the ACER(C)
but no, it wasnt. It was one of my local disk, a Maxtor HD.

The installation is complete. Everything is fine except one thing :

I cannot access my Maxtor HD i used to boot with during the installation but in my Device Menager it said its there and working perfectly.

I cannot boot my computer unless I go to Boot Menu when I start my computer and choose my Maxtor HD which is stupid because its not my Master HD.

I tried to re-format again booting with my master HD but its not working.
So... I have W7 on my master, I boot with my local disk which is working but can't access(I have stuffs on it).

I really need to know if there's a way to get back my stuff on my Maxtor HD.
Any help is welcome, sorry for my bad english and thanks in advance.

Hello MagnaCarta, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

I would suggest first for you to unplug (after the computer is turned off) all but the master hard drive (ACER(C)) and follow this tutorial. You may need to repeat the procedure up to three times to complete the fix:

MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record

Afterward, we can see about the Maxtor drive?

    Cheers!
    Robert

Try searching "recover formated partition" but DO NOT restore, DO NOT keep installing on the partition(s) that you want to "recover". I'm thinking the maxtor drive's partition might have some problems. type this:

start -> run (or search) "compmgmt.msc" and hit enter... Then Storage -> Disk Management and you'll see all the drives on your computer. Don't format, erase, delete, or anything but look around and see if you have any drives in there that aren't showing up in My Computer, if so I'm guessing you have missing (or deleted) partitions. Let us know what's up and we can get back to you much easier after knowing if you see more drives in there than in My Computer.

Basically we are looking for a "hidden" or "missing" drive.

Infact tell us if any drives don't have drive letters assigned. You'll know what I'm talking about, it will say something like
    Code:
Disk 0 "New Volume ect.. (C:)"
    for your C: drive.

Look up for my stuff on the maxtor drive, make sure it's plugged in. Though if it works your good, if not we'll need to know what's going on in the computer management panel to give the right advice off the bat.

Awesome! Glad you got it worked out. The only suggestion I was going to make was to make sure the ASUS drive was set as "Primary" or first on the list in the BIOS, so your computer looks to it first for the correct boot code.

    Well done!
