Yes I installed it using vista compatibility and the same error comes:





and when I click ok, this comes:




and then this windows disappears.

If the device shows up in device manager you can try to force the install by clicking update driver>browse my computer>let me pick> have disk and point it to where you have located the driver. runtime error 94 is Invalid Use of Null. Their is a lot of information on this error if you search for it. I'm hesitant to point you to any one particular site as it seems to involve a .inf mod or a registry change.

I installed it by the method that you mentioned. I went to have disk and selected the driver folder. It had two folders WCAMC WCAMR (I googled this and it means webcam Chicony and webcam Ricoh). I had to select a .inf file according to the have disk window and when I went to WCAMC it didnt show any inf file but when I went to WCAMR it had a 'driver' folder and I clicked it and it had a file named"R5U870FL.inf" and I selected it and the have disk window showed "HP Pavilion Webcam" and I clicked next and it installed and asked for a restart and I restarted it. but its still not working. In fact now it says the device cannot start (which isn't a problem as I can always just uninstall this driver and it will go back to the 'micro vision' driver):






(note that before it was showing as HP Webcam 1000 provided by Micro Vision)

There's not a great deal of information available for this particular webcam. Almost every search result (and there are very few) for the hardware id refers to the same problem as you are having, or similar. It seems that HP have been delaying addressing this issue for a while. Their official response is that they're currently working on a driver fix.
The Ricoh R5U870 webcam is also used in some Sony Vaio laptops, however I was unable to extract a usable driver from their installation file for you, unfortunately.

You may want to register your issue on HP's Windows 7 forum, so they are aware of yet another user having an issue with it.

There are no unknown devices listed under USB controller.

The micro vision driver which windows 7 automatically installed should work right? as it doesn't display a yellow explanation mark while this ricoh driver does display the exlamanation mark(meaning it cannot start). Don't know why it doesnt work.
