my discontinued nforce 4 and windows 7

hello guys, i think i need help understanding some things

im a bit worried that i couldnt run my motherboard driver cd, however ive done enough digging on various forums to know that windows 7 comes with damn near every driver you could want.

i went through device manager and there are some things in the system devices section that windows ( and I ) cant seem to find a driver for...technically

i say technically because under the "general" tab when you click properties, it says "there are no drivers installed for this device". however when i go to the "driver" tab is has a driver listed with a

    driver date: 6/21/2006
    driver version:6.1.7600.16385
    digital signer: Microsoft Windows

nearly everything in my device manager has this same driver version, date, and signer, however they say "this device is working properly"

these are the system devices that say they dont have a driver, but it seems windows installed one for it

    -system timer
    -system speaker
    -programmable interrupt controller
-pci standard RAM conroller (8 entries)
    -nvidia nForce4 hyperTransport Bridge
    -nvidia nForce PCI system management
    -numeric data processor
    -Direct memory access controller

im just confused, can anyone help me out please before my head explodes? im extremely worried about the hypertransport bridge and ram controller's

click my profile to see my system specs

    thank you

Those are all mostly chipset drivers and I don't find any drivers other than for win XP 64 bit. Under utilities version V6.82 ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- You can try compatiblity mode for install or try windows update. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- good luck. Fabe

I've found these from NVidia. They are Vista drivers, but they should work.

    32-bit NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.23 WHQL
    64-bit NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.23 WHQL

IMHO, the best source of drivers, and driver-related information for your board is the nforcershq forum. Not only do they post vanilla and modded drivers, they also have forums where folks post the results (good and bad) of using those drivers.

BTW, nforce drivers for Win7 are up to 15.51 -- but the drivers are chipset-specific. So, it's best to check in the forums to find out which latest version applies to your chipset before attempting to install it.

thank you for all the help guys.

dwarf i tried the drivers you linked and the first installer package went all the way through then it asked me if i wanted to install nforce something network it tried than aborted.

anyways the nforce4 hypertransport bridge has changed names to nforce hypertransport bridge and has a driver date of 8/21/2008. i dont know if that bad or not lol i know that nforce 4 sli / amd motherboards only support 1000 hypertranport and that by 2008 they were at 2000.

however the "driver tab" in device manage has updated, the "general" tab still says there no driver installed. is this normal? it doesnt do it for any other device except the ones in the system devices tab that i listed in my first post. this is the main thing im worried about as when i start overclocking i dont want my computer to explode.

thanks again guys let me know if i should roll back the nforce 5 drivers i just installed

I spent a couple days trying to find drivers for a DFI board with Nvida chipset. I never got it done because everywhere I went stated that Nvidia would not produce Win7 drivers for nForce 4, and I couldn't get the Vista drivers to work.

I gave it up concluding that Windows 7 is not going to support this chipset.
