Coming to this late. The Nikon website says there are no firmware updates for the 5000 ED. I have followed the instructions here. The software starts fine. The scanner pulls in a 4 image strip fine. If I scan it goes through the motions 4 times. But all the screen shows is a white screen. No images. Ideas?

Yeah, there was no firmware update for your scanner.

As to your issue, I've no idea as I no longer use my scanner. In fact I've retired it since moving to digital.

Anyway, have you tried scanning one image at a time?

    I uninstalled the Nikon software.
I d/l VueScan 64 and installed it. It gave me an image so the light source is working.
Uninstalled VueScan and re-installed Nikon software.
I have found that the preview function does not work. If I turn off everything auto and then go directly to Scan I get an image.

Now I have to figure out how to process 4 images off the film strip. I don't find the software intuitive.

Hmmm.... the preview function should be working. Where did you get Nikon software from?

And which operating system is this?

Anyway I don't even have the software installed as I'm now on Windows 8.1, so I can't even look at it to see what might be going on.

Followed your instructions in the very first message of this thread. It is from the Nikon site. Version 4.0.3. Used your .INF file and the DLL mentioned.

    I am running Win 7 Pro 64.

yeah you have the right files. That said unfortunately I can't figure out what's causing your issues. I usually did single scans at a time so and had no issues, even using digital ICE. As for previews, they should all be showing.

I know this is a bit much, but you could go through this thread to see if you come across something.

    Good luck.

Getting Coolscan 5000 to work in Win 8.1 x64

I have been using my Coolscan 5000 on a Win 7 x64 system for years now, using your work around. It works great. Just got a new computer but unfortunately it came with Win 8.1 Followed your instructions but when I try to install the "scanners.inf" file I get the following error message that "The third party INF does not contain digital signature information" Is there any way around this problem?

Never mind I found out how to disable digital signatures and the scanner works!.

Just FYI, I've never had to disable any digital signatures, and these procedures don't require it.

Don't know what you experienced, but it's not supposed to happen that way.

Anyway you did what you did to get around it.

    Peace

I have a nikon Cool Scan 5000 2 years ago when I got a win 7 computer I downloaded your fix and could scan slides.
I need to scan some slides now and I click on Nikon Scan and a message the a dll file is missing. I followed all your instructions again though I had all the files already. It didn't work for an hour then I tried it again to find out what dll file it said I was missing and it opened correctly. Not sure why it didn't work before and works now. But thank you for creating this fix so I don't have to throw away the scanner.

I still can't get Nikon 9000 scanner to work with Win7 ultimate x64

Hello, I've tried all the scanner.inf fixes that I've seen in this post and other posts and I'm trying for the scanner to work with Nikon Scan 4.03 as described.

There doesn't seem to be any firmware upgrade for the 9000 and frankly, after I updated my 8000's firmware it just became a useless bucket.

I finally got the scanner to work with your help here. Just didn't realize at first that I had viewscan installed and the system won't let two firewire scanner drivers run at the same time.
