but I went back to my xp and same problem, both computers have ieee1394 cards that I bought and installed, both recognize the cards drivers are working properly? Maybe I need a new firewire cable or maybe my scanner is not working properly?
Hard to say one way or the other. If possible you could try another cable. As for you LS4000 that's what I have and it works like a charm. Point being that the fix was tested by me with my 4000.

Also if you're using a IEEE add-in card, you might check to make sure it has proper drivers for Windows 7 as well. Since it's an add-in card, it will need drivers.

    Let me know.

    Error during Batch Scanning?

I was wondering if any user has reported problems with batch scanning using your awesome fix. I can scan single images just fine, but it errs when I scan multiple images. Any thoughts?
I"m using the 5000 with a brand new Windows 7 machine.

    Cheers!

Sure! The error happens when I to try batch scan multiple images, obviously. I'm able to preview and set scan parameters without problem. After selecting multiple images, I click Scan, the Batch scan setting screen appears (unchecked Save to disk and stops on errors), and I click OK. Each scan quickly fails and a message box pops up with 4 items, each saying the same thing: "There was an error in performing a scan."

When I try to scan a second time (immediately after the above events) with either the same or modified settings, it runs fine and all images are scanned. Also, I'm able to scan single images with out this initial problem happening.

It's puzzling. I've tried it on another XP machine (which is about to die, this machine is the replacement) and it works, which makes me think it's not hardware. But, it looks like significant number of people have had success with it.
    Uggg!

    Nikon 5000

On the first page I noticed you were going to PM an additional bit of info to a user with a 5000.
I just loaded Nikon 5000 disc, connected the scanner to start scanning slides, and discovered the computer (brand new Dell Windows 7) doesn't recognize the scanner even being present.
Googled and found your forum explaining Nikon 5000 doesn't work on Windows 7, and also checked Windows and Nikon to verify not supported.
I'm not too computer savy, but wanted to try the fix you described on first page, but then saw the additional step for 5000 scanners, and your note that you were going to PM the person who asked.
    Can you help? Thanks.

Actually you can just download the file I have on my site as it now includes the 5000. Nothings changed other than that.

    Let me know.

I tried everything in your instructions. Probably just not computer savy enough. The zip file which I saved in a new folder as instructed doesn't end in .inf.
But, I do have both items in the folder.
When I go to the device manager the unit is there with the yellow triangle.
BUT...it won't let me select a driver. That is not an option when I right click the icon.
