I tried everything in your instructions. Probably just not computer savy enough. The zip file which I saved in a new folder as instructed doesn't end in .inf.
You do know you need to unzip (extract) the file right?

3- Extract and save the scanners.inf file to a location or folder of your choosing

Here's how to use Windows to do it - Unzip a File or Folder — MAXIMUMpcguides – Windows 7 tips, tricks, help, and how-to guides

Once you unzip and save, it will be the scanners.inf. That's the file you put in the folder.

    Let me know.

Never did see "unzip" command when working with the file.
But did get it to open and save in opened fashion in the folder, and now the scanner is working.

    THANKS!!

    Hi Signus 21
Many thanks to you and to the gentleman from Earthbound light for the instructions for enabling my LS4000ED with Win 7 64 bit. Mines a Firewire version at it now works fine.
I wonder if I might take advantage of your knowledge and ask if you could help with the following?

I have just built a new PC. On my old PC, I was using a cut down piece of software called Nero Cover Designer (ver. 2 I think) which gave me a simple but useful means to create and burn Lightscribe CD's. The software was provided free with an LG Lightscribe writer. This was installed on my old hard drive running XP 32 bit.

Then I built a new PC, installed the old hard drive with XP as a back up on the new computer and installed all my software and documents and Win 7 64 bit on a new HDD as the main drive.

Problem is, I don't have the software disc for Coverdesigner anymore. I tried to copy the original installation files from old drive to new drive but there is a file missing advrcntr2.dll. When trying to activate "CoverDes.exe, I get "This program requires the file advrcntr2.dll which was not found on this system".
I can find this file on the XP drive (it's in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib) and I think if I only knew where to put this file in Win7 64 bit, there's a chance it might work if I then copy all the original Coverdesigner files from the old drive to the new, including CoverDes.exe and then double-click the exe file.
Please would you be able to tell me where to put this file in Win 7 ?
    many thanks
    Charles

Please post your other issue in the software forum

    Hi Vulcanzero1,

First off happy to hear you got the scanner working. Good.

Now as to your other issue, I'm going to have to ask that you post it in the software portion of this forum as this thread is strictly for Nikon Coolscan issues.

I will say this though; you will most likely need to original disk to get the software to properly install. Also, that you moved to a 64-bit OS, you might run into a compatibility issues as well.

Any further questions or discussions will have to be done in a separate thread.

    Sorry and good luck.

    Nikon Scan Freezes

Hi Sygnus, you sure are a patient guy, I hope you can help me with Nikon scan problem.

I have a Coolscan 9000 and have done everthing that you have outlined to get Nikon Scan to work in Win 7 64 bit professional.

The Driver installs successfully, but when I try to open Nikon Scan, the program becomes non-responsive and I need to use Device Manager to close it.
Thinking maybe my scanner or cable was malfunctioning, I installed Vuescan and it ran perfectly when I used it. So, there must be something in the software or my system that is hanging up.

I'm hope you might know what is causing this and can recommend a fix.
    Thanks in Advance-Bob

Make sure you completely uninstall Vuescan before attempting my fix. This will eliminate any conflicts with Vuescan while using the procedures here!!!

Please use the file I provide. I've had people come here complaining that the procedures don't work, only to find that they were using a file from someone else.

With that said, I would ask that you uninstall Vuescan and try my procedures again. Make sure you re-boot the computer once you install the Nikon software then finish the procedures.

If you still have problems post a screen shot of your "Device Manager" as seen here.... Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64

    Let me know.

    Nikon Scan Freezes

    Thanks for the quick reply.
For clarification, I did everything you listed and have Device Manager showing the driver as working properly. When I try to open Nikon Scan- the program stops responding.
Only then did I try Vuescan to see if my scanner was the problem. Like I said, Vuescan worked.
I will try a fresh install like you requested and see if I can get it to work.

When you installed the scan software, did you re-boot? If not, try re-booting and try again. Aslo make sure you're trying to install the driver I supplied.
