    Nikon Scan Still Hangs up

    Well Sygnus,
I deleted all the programs, drivers , folders, etc., and turned off my firewalls and tried a clean install.
I still get the same results...
Nikon Scan opens and then greys out and is nonresponsive.

The Device Manager shows the scanner to be working properly.

Hope we can find the problem...
    TIA Bob

    I tried another route.
My laptop is running win 7 32 bit. Nikon Scan works like a charm on it. So I can work again, albeit in a roundabout way....
So, it must be some setting on my PC that is interfering with Nikon Scan.
    Any Thoughts?

    Hi Gardenerbob,

It's hard to say what the problem is, especially since I don't have access to your PC (not that I'm asking to).

However is your scanner firewire or usb, I forget? If USB, have you tried a different port?

Firewire-I installed the firewire card that came with the scanner. I just realised my motherboard has a firewire connector as well. Both show that they are working properly.
Right now I just don't know what else I can do.

If you PC already has a FireWire card and you don't need to one that came with the sacnner, remove it. Than see if the scanner works.

    Another thought....
When I go to Devices and Printers and click on the scanner, I get an error message ' Install WIA Driver to use this device'.
Is that different from the driver I installed?
    Thanks Again-Bob

That's normal. You don't (neither does anyone else) have a WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) have a driver for that scanner thus that error message.

What the WIA drivers allow you to do is use Windows interface for the scans instead of the Nikon software. The drivers I provide include that feature. In fact I'm not sure the official ones did either, though I could be wrong.

Anyway back to you current situation.... it sounds like a conflict between the desktop and the scanner but I have no idea what that conflict as this is the first time I've heard of such an issue.

You also state that the procedures worked with your laptop, so you're obviously doing them right.

Do you have all the Windows updates for the desktop?

Also, can you post a screen shot of your Device Manager showing the "Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI.... controller" as show here - Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64

    Thanks
