Thank you for this fix! Now I no longer need to keep an old XP system running & transfer my scans.

Overall it works great but I did encounter one problem - when I go into preferences I can make the desired selections however when I try to close out of the preferences dialog the scanner software hangs. I need to force out of it & restart Nikon Scan. It will restart without issue & the changes I applied in the preferences dialog had been applied & from there it scans fine. This occurs both in selecting preferences via the preview box or Edit ---> Preferences.

Overall easy to work around this but looking through this thread I haven't seen anyone else encountering this problem.

My scanner is an LS4000 connected via 1394, I'm running Win 7 64 pro & using a TI controller card for 1394 attachment.

    Thanks again!

Before you get rid of your old XP machine, make sure you have the latest firmware installed. Your issue "may" be because you don't have the newest firmware out.

    Peace.

Yes firmware is current - just to be certain I went out to the Nikon site & confirmed by attempting a firmware update & received a message that scanner was up to date.

I have the exact same problem with my 5000ED using NikonScan 4.03. Any ideas?

As I told the other person, you might make sure your firmware is up to date. Outside of that I have no other suggestions at this time as I no longer use the scanner since going digital. In fact I don't even have the scanner hooked up to my system anymore since I've also moved to Windows 8.

    Sorry.

Thanks sygnus21. The firmware is up to date.
I still have several thousands of family history slides so I will be using it for a while yet I think. It's not a big problem to live with as once you set the preferences you don't usually need to change them often.

Yeah I don't know what's going on there, but I vaguely remember having that issue once or twice under Windows XP. Hopefully it's a quirk as I don't remember seeing it under 7, but who knows

    Good luck.
