Hi, Sorry I'm a late comer to this thread, I've been following a tutorial from Sygnus21 from early 2010 regarding using Nikon coolscan 5000 Ed on a windows 7 64 bit computer. I followed all the instructions until I get to # 8 on his tutorial. I right click on the unspecified entry listed as Ls-5000 ED on device manager but all I get are three options, create shortcut, troubleshoot or properties. I do not get no browse option to allow me to point to the Nikon Files. When I hit troubleshoot it searches online then comes back no driver found for unspecified device. I'm not sure why this is happening. I would appreciate any suggestions so I can get the 5000 ED to work.
In properties I get manufacturer: U/K, model: Ls-5000 ED, Model number: N/A , category: U/K, Description: N/A. Basically not recognized other than its name appearing in devices.

And the following error has been bothering me for quite some time with my Coolscan 5000 and the Nikon scan software:
There was an error performing a scan
This error always happens when i really try to do the scan of a film strip. First i do a preview that goes ok. Afterwards i do the scan then 1/3 it stops with this error. If i press the scan button again, the scan succeeds.
If you want to know the solution and what causes this...read on :)
While i did not scan continuously, but with some days of break between, i came along an article of someone advising the optimal settings for Nikon scan software. There he suggested to turn off Digital ICE in the preview setting to speed things up. Seems i did that at some point.
However, when scanning i always have Digital ICE turned on except for B/W negatives.
The solution to get rid of this error is to TURN ON Digital ICE in the preview setting (which was default)!
Thats it! Happy scanning without this annoying error! I hope this solves the problem for others.

We already have instructions here on how to get the Scanner working Under Windows 7 so there's no need to repost another link that basically says the same thing.
Additionally, if you feel you want to draw attention to your site, you could post your own thread instead of trying to hijack someone else's.

First, which operating system are we talking about? Windows 7 - Windows 8/8.1? Anyway...
Hi, first off I'm not sure what's going on as the Nikon LS5000 definitely works with these instructions. That said, since the LS5000 is USB make sure you pay attention to the note under step #4....
Then follow the rest of the directions and when you get to step #8 make sure you choose the correct folder, which should be the ScanUSB folder for you since you have the LS5000

Sorry if my sharing info was taken wrong/insulting. I got nothing to do with the website. I just wanted to share to get it working on Windows 8.1 and the problem i had. If its not useful or i posted it wrong in the forum, you can delete it. No hard feelings.
It was just the way it was posted. That said, if it does contain info for getting the scanner to work under Windows 8.1, please re-link with the title of Windows 8.1 as these procedures don't include the 8.1 instructions (yet). Since I no longer use my scanner, I've not looked into getting the scanner working there (8.1).
