Hi BlinkyBill2,
Sorry about your issue but I have to point out that through the length of this thread, all the e-mails I've gotten through my website, plus my own experience.... there is absolutely no issue with my fix and Windows 7 that would cause the issue you've experienced.
I wrote these procedures as I used them on my Windows 7 machine at the time with my Nikon Coolscan 4000ED. I've also had to walk many people through the procedures and no one has ever reported the type issue you've experienced.
In fact, if you read the last few pages of this thread, you'd even see some have used my fix to get the scanners to work under Windows 8, and still no crashing issues.
While I'm aware that anything can happen in computers, based on my experience, and that of others, I'm quite confident your issue has nothing to do with my fix or the drivers and file provided.
At any rate I'm no longer using Windows 7 or the scanner so I can't troubleshoot the issue. All I can say is that if you're having start/restart issues, post it in the forum I linked to. You can even link back to this post, and I'll chime in if need be.
And you shouldn't have to "wait 15 secs for bootup". That would indicate there is an issue that needs looking into.
Thanks, and good luck.
