This is a common problem it seems, but I cannot solve this. I am running the latest CCC drivers from ATi.

To make things even more confusing, I used to run VMWare Workstation 6.5 and Windows Server 2008 R2. I could happily adjust the hardware acceleration setttings (had not updated the ATi drivers but VMWare uses its own display drivers). I then got VMWare Workstation 7.0 and I could not adjust hardware acceleration.

Any ideas how I can resolve this?

Hardware acceleration is automatically adjusted by your ATI drivers depending on the applications you are using.
It cannot be adjusted manually.

i dunno if thats some new thing on windows 7 but when i was using windows xp my ati drivers did NOT automatically adjust my hardware acceleration, i had to manually adjust it myself

Windows 7 Ultimate Edition x64

I have now filled in the system specs which matter.

Where did you get the idea that HW acceleration is automatically adjusted? I have not found anything from MS or any video card vendor (ATI in particular as that is what I have), stating this. Would have to get in contact with the relevant companies to get this information myself.

To the guy who asked if this problem is still occuring on my system - yes.

I am going to do a BIOS update very soon.

Has anyone resolved this issue yet? It seems that there a lot of us out there asking and I have yet to see a solution. I personally need to be able t access hardware acceleration due to the fact that have some software issues and programs that don't work unless you are able to access hardware acceleration. It's something that could be done on XP but now microsoft has to change things yet again. Have you ever tried to save a jpeg file from a website with windows 7? I tried saving pics but then I could never find them again and my HP help desk had no idea waht the problem was after hours and hours on the landline. Turns out you have to make the website your saving from a trusted site in order to save any pics and find them again. the only way I found that out was that I was just lucky and spoke to the right person. This is why making windows better is one thing, but if you want to make people happy you also make it similiar to the last version, at least not so different you need to take a course to know it. So again, does anyone have a fix?

I also have an ATI 2600 XT (PCIe version).

Do you have the "Catalyst Control Center" installed? Isn't that where you can adjust all of the hardware acceleration parameters?
