    have had DivX problems

on a previous laptop ( dell inspiron ) the DivX software was so hard to use that it caused big problems with loading a movie or watching one ( I did have to go back to a previous version or older version of DivX because the most recent updated one was not working out )and I was wondering if anyone here knew how to check over the system in my current laptop to see that its OK for watching movies online.

You could try Media Player Codec Pack as an alternative. Only install codecs.

filled out specs, ( I'm in mourning for my previous laptop - my head is not at 100% ) couldnt find any info on motherboard unless someone tells me where to look, ( other than taking off the back cover for the motherboard, I'm typing ). I'm a basic user and will probably ask questions alot but I need to learn right? I realize my specs are not great in terms of giving specific numbers but again, if someone can suggest how to get it right, I'm listening. I probably ruined my last laptop by working it too hard or not knowing enough but I'm here to try to avoid those same problems with my new laptop.

You dont say whether you are running 64bit or 32bit... Either way, I would add another 2gb of ram... Other than that you shouldnt have any problems with watching videos at all..

    32 bit operating system

    I went to speedtest to see my performance figs : download speed - 5.17 mb/s // upload - 0.52 mb/s // ping 104 minutes // download - MP3 file ( 5 mb ) 8 sec / video clip ( 35 mb ) 55 sec / movie ( 800 mb ) 21 minutes // upload - email attachment ( 1 mb ) 16 sec / photo gallery ( 8 mb ) 2 min / video clip ( 35 mb ) 9 minutes

    download result - 90 % of best
    upload result - 60 % of best

and my average download speed was slightly below the 6.14 mb/s for the world

so obviously my ISP is partly to blame for that 800 mb download time for watching movies online, 21 minutes? that sounds pretty bad to me! ( unless these speeds are always fluxuating ).

digital-digest.com that's all I've got to say for all your video related codecs.

[edit] Just making sure you get this in your head, DIGITAL-DIGEST!!! No really, it's been around for years.... Ever since DVD's first came out and we were all "OMFG!!!"
