I have registered on this site just to let you all know that I did solve my compatibility problem of my CanoScan Lide 20 with my OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit by using VueScan.

I know it is not a free solution, but at least is something that works.

    Hello there.

I've found a solution that, at least, will work on the Pro and Ultimate versions.

First of all you have to install the Windows XP Mode. Download links and instructions here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir.../download.aspx, or follow this great guide: Windows XP Mode - Install and Setup.

Once finished, enter in your new "Windows XP Mode" and download / install the Lide20 Windows XP driver and the CanoScan Toolbox. Plug you scanner in, and in the USB menu on top of the XP Mode select "Attach"... if everything's OK, you scanner will work flawlessly inside XP Mode.

It's not exactly a quick process, but it's a free solution

I hope you find it useful. It may also work with other unsupported drivers.

    Cheers from Spain.

Along those same lines, if you don't have Win7 professional or Ultimate, you can download Virtual Box, from Virtuabox.org as long as you have one of your older 32 bit OS's on hand.

I installed Virtual Box onto win7 64, installed my old windows XP pro 32bit OS into virtual box as a guest OS, then installed my LIDE 20 and printer drivers into that. Works like a charm, and you can also use any program with twain drivers, like Photoshop. I've also set-up shared folders between my host OS (win7 64 bit) and the guest OS's. I now have XP pro 32, Vista 32 and Ubuntu 64 installed as guest OS's in Virtual Box. VBox has transformed me into a virtual machine freak..it's almost borderline O.C. disorder!

Being able to bring-up any of those OS's via a few mouse clicks is pretty handy for driver issues like this as well as when people call me with a specific question about an older OS.

OBTW. Virtual Box is a free download, so there's definite bang-for-the-buck if you have a 32 bit OS on hand to install as a guest OS.

I faced the same problem. Solution above works perfectly.. (VMWare, VirtualBox or other visualization software will do the same.. as said in the previous comments)

But it's still pretty annoying when you are not able to use the scanner directly in Windows 7.. (Personally I was not able to get the VueScan drivers work properly) But fortunately I found a solution for this problem: Try to get RemoteScan (RemoteScan). It's like sharing your printer.. (Con: an official license is pretty expensive to buy.)

When you have installed it you can use your Canon Canoslide Lide 20 (also 30 etc.) directly in Win7 x64. The only thing you have to is startup the XPMode in background (it functions as the scanner server).

    How to install:
    - First follow fogya's post
    - Download (buy) or try to get RemoteScan
    - Install the RemoteScan Server software on the XPMode VM
    - Your XPMode VM must have correct network access with your win7 pc. (That means: same workgroup name, use the correct network adapter settings etc., e.g. you must be able to see the win7 pc in "Network" with "Search for computers in your workgroup".
    - Install the RemoteScan Client software on your win7 x64.

Ready. use your scanner directly in every windows 7 software. Of course you can also use another PC at home that already runs XP as the scanner server.

    VueScan

    Hi

I have Windows 7 64-bit too. The only solution I know about, was to buy VueScan.

It cost 35$ I think, but try the demo first - it worked for me...

Try the Win7 LIDE60 driver and force load it using the install driver/update driver.

I have a Canoscan LIDE 30 and I have no 64 bit drivers for that. The VueScan app does work but it costs £££.
The LIDE 30 is now over 8 years old (2003) and 64 OS' were not that common then. You are best off replacing the scanner with a modern one e.g. LIDE 110, 200 or later which have the latest drivers included. That is the path I will chose.
