    Hello everyone.

I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 for many days now always with the same problems. I have tried v7000, v7022, & v7048.

I am trying to dual boot with Vista Home Premium x86. I have a completely empty 3rd hard drive I am trying to install too.

ok so I boot from the dvd and I get the typical windows driver loading and get to the first blue screen to install Windows 7. I click install and it says starting install then it stops and says cd/dvd device driver missing... This comes along with the brouse box to locate the driver. I have looked everywhere and do not see any kind of driver available for my DVD drive.

    I have a Gateway GT5628
    2.40 GHz Q6600 Core 2 Quad processor - 3gb Memory
I have upgraded my video card to a BFG Nvidia 260 gtx
    & my DVD Drive to a Sony DVD-RW/DL +/- 18x DRU-840A
I have 2 SATA hard drives. 1 With Vista on it and one is just full of data.
I also have a New Western Digital Cavaiar 1TB SATA Hard Drive (This is the one I am trying to install to)
I am not using any of the 3 drives in Raid configuration.
I have very limited choices in my bios to do much at all and I have updated to the newest bios available from Gateway.

Any help at all would be great.
    Thanks alot.
    :)

I have the SAME problem and I have tried everything to resolve the problem. I`m trying to install OEM W7 x64 to a new machine. When installation is starting up and it`s gathering information, it stops and says CD/DVD device driver is missing.

I have downloaded the W7 from MS. I have burned it 3 times with different burners, drives and burning speeds. I have made a BOOT USB. I have taken of things from MoBo and put them back. I have tried manually download drivers from disk that followed MoBo. I have downloaded those drivers, everyone of them from Asus and burned them to disk.

Nothing works, allways the same problem.

It´s close to Hammering time !!!

I had this problem with the commerical version of Win7 x64, and my BIOS was up to date (make sure yours is). Eventually, I solved the problem by replacing the perfectly good IDE DVD with a SATA DVD, although there may be other fixes.

E.g. from: Windows 7 Install - Cannot Find DVD Driver [Solved]
After reading many threads in many places and trying just about everything I saw (removed HW until almost nothing left, reduced BIOS settings to minimal items, good quality ISO burn, booth from USB, etc.), I was finally able to resolve the problem on my system and it had nothing to do with the DVD drive/drivers at all (I had even removed all IDE components), it was the SATA drivers for the MoBo.

On another PC (obviously), I downloaded the latest Win7 drivers for my motherboard and put them on the USB stick that I was installing Win7 from (although this should probably work even if you install from DVD, just as long as you can get to them when you Browse from the error dialog). Once I got the error, I browsed to the files to install, but they still didn't show up. I unchecked the box for not displaying incompatible drivers and then they showed up. I selected the driver and hit Next and everything went smoothly after that.

What drives me crazy is that the error message gets you looking for DVD drivers when it has nothing to do with that, plus Win7 doesn't even recognize the correct drivers as being compatible with the hardware!

Anyway, after several days wasted at least my system is up and running finally. Hopefully this will help resolve the problem for others as well and save them from wasting as much time. Good luck!

if you've made a bootable USB with win7 on it I can't see why its not working.

easiest thing to do is borrow a dvd drive or buy a model you know works they arn't that expensive, £15 order before midnight and it arrives by 10am from ebuyer :)

Burning the iso to a disk at a slower rate worked for me. I didn't even have to download the .iso again.

    THANKS!!!!!

Try another USB port (USB 3.0 controller support issue?)

Just wanted to share what worked in my case. I was installing Windows 7 Enterprise x64 to a Samsung 9 Series laptop. I got the prompt for the driver, and Browsed out to a USB stick onto which I had loaded all the driver files for that model, downloaded (and extracted) from the Samsung website. I also tried disabling all but the SSD and the USB external hard drive from the boot order list. None of that worked. However, I realized that I had plugged in the external hard drive into the USB 3.0 slot throughout all my tests. I tried plugging it into the USB 2.0 slot instead, restarted the install, and voila--the install progressed without the prompt.

    Hope this helps someone!

I'm using Acer Aspire 4750G..Problem is when i plugged the flashdisk into the USB 2.0 slot, it failed to boot from the flashdisk.

I had a thread of my own: Trouble installing Win 7 x64 on Aspire 4750G - No Device Drivers Found

    This is so frustating..

Don't use USB 3.0 ports for installation

During OS installation, do not use USB 3.0 ports(blue ports) to connect your external CD/DVD drive. If you use USB 2.0 ports, everything will work.

    Another Fix

Here's the only fix that worked for me. Go into your BIOS and disable any IDE/PATA controllers.

Even if you unhook your PATA CD/DVD drive from the motherboard the setup freaks out for some reason. Once you disable the controller and just have the SATA controller enabled it should work. Of course, you'll have to have a SATA CD/DVD drive or use USB thumb drive for the install.

    Hope that helps.
