    AMD Powernow!

    Hello,

    I have an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor running at 2.3 ghz. When I use Windows Vista the Powernow! technology kicks in and throttles down the processor speed to 800mhz when it is unplugged. But in Windows 7 the Powernow! does not work. Does anyone know of a way to fix it, or a driver to fix it? It really kills my battery time and makes it run really hot.

    Sleep states allow the computer to enter low-power modes after a period of inactivity. The S3 sleep state is the default sleep state for Windows platforms. The S3 sleep state consumes only enough power to preserve memory contents and allow the computer to resume working quickly. Very few platforms support the S1 or S2 Sleep states.

    So I think I might have solved the problem thanks to the power thing. I found my way some how to the advanced power settings. In there I found that the processor speed minimums were set to 100%! for all profiles and all states. How that happened... no idea. All things are restored to default!! I believe this solved my problem, the processors are now showing 800mhz with the AMD clock utility and are moving up and down! My computer is still hot from before, but I will let you know if the status changes.

    opposite problem

    Kyle,

    i have an extended battery, as well as a way to instantly measure my cpu temperature, so heat is not an issue for me.

    I have windows vista, and powernow is essentially useless because it always cuts back on cpu at the most in-opportune time...like rendering in autocad, or playing call of duty4, etc....

    So, my question for you is, when you installed windows 7 and it didn't have the powernow drivers, what was your clock speed?

    PowerNow works here perfectly out of the box, no need to install anything. And of course it is not a good idea to install outdated AMD software which is not made for Win 7!
    I have an Turion64 X2 2.4 GHz TL-68 (Tyler G2 core).

    In addition here is a brand new MS hotfix for AMD CPU in Vista/7 (x64 only):

    @bigtom
    Win 7 offers 3 settings, in the highest CPU clock always stays at 2394 MHz, measured with latest CPU-Z for x64.
