Stuck out in the Ocean somewhere you aren't in a position to return the thing to the manufacturer as yet.
However, the first step is, as noted by iseeuu, always to return it to manufacturer's condition if that is possible. Usually by using the supplied software. That's not quite the same as using a Win 7 fresh install. It usually means a reformat and returning the HD to the set up that came preinstalled, down to the last annoying preinstalled bit of dodgy trialware.
At the very least that will let you see any differences from a standard WIN 7 set up. And/or get the thing working in a useful manner for you. Even if it's not how you want it to be.
And then you have two options. Use it well, then,
1. If it is working properly find out from the manufacturer's web site what is essential to the set up before messing with the Windows 7 install again or;
2. If it still isn't right it'll have to go back.
