How to stop Win 7 Driver Software Installation

    Hi,

I have a problem with windows "Driver Software Installation".

I have an Audigy 2 ZS card installed. Every time I boot the
machine the ""Driver Software Installation" starts and finalize
with saying that the card is ready to use. This is not correct
as there is no sound. Every time I reboot the same thing happens.

Now, I have disabled Windows Update, I have disabled the devices
etc. but nothing stops this ""Driver Software Installation" from
    starting at the next boot.

I would like to install Daniel Kawakami's Audigy_SupportPack_2_18_0001_W7
but when I start, it says it can not install untill I have rebooted
from a previous install which is the "Driver Software Installation"
failed installation. And rebooting of course starts the "Diver Software
    Installation" again.

Is there any way to disable the ""Driver Software Installation"?

    Thanks.

Hi Bernhard, and Welcome to the Forum!

Open Control Panel - System - click Advanced System settings - hardware tab - Device Installation settings, and you'll find it there.

Good luck with that driver bud!

Hi and thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it did not turn off
the automatic install. If you look at the text in the Device
Installations Settings it says turn off automatic install from
Windows Update. Obviously it did not turn off automatic install
if the driver is found in the Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepositoy.

Now, deleting the audigy driver in that folder and uninstalling from the
device manager and the restart. Automatic install starts as usual but fails
now with a "driver not found" message. Restart again and the automatic
installtation does not start att all.

After this it was possible to install the Daniel K's audigy 2 ZS driver
and all seems to be working fine now.

Bit of a pain but I had the same problem with a Hauppage TV tuner - Windows kept wanting to install its own one.

    Here's how to do it.

    1) UNINSTALL the device driver via control panel===>device manager etc.
    2) Choose delete software. Ignore any restart messages.
    3) UNPLUG / DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET.
    4) Install yourr driver Audigy.
    5) STILL DISCONNECTED FROM THE INTERNET re-boot.
    6) check your device is working
    7) now re-connect to the Internet.

You might have to do this a couple of times to flush out the microsoft driver.

    cheers

Type 'device' in the search window (hit the windows logo key). A list will come. About the fourth one down is 'change device installation settings.'
I have never tried it but it appears to do what you want to do. Let us know if it works.

You can set the "SearchOrderConfig" value at registry key:
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching
As i noticed the values are as following:
    Code:
    0 - disable
    1 - enable
2 - enable, but download only if newer
BTW you can open the dialog quickly by running:
    Code:
    rundll32 newdev.dll,DeviceInternetSettingUi 2
