Dell Inspiron 1526 touchpad drivers and problems

I am aware that there is another thread relating to scrolling issues that includes some of the problem that I am having but it does not solve all my questions.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 1526. However my touchpad does not have it's same functionality. The scroll does not work and I cannot disable it. In Vista 32 my touchpad used to disable automatically when I plugged in a mouse. I found an ALPS driver (from the previous thread) that enables me to scroll without bugs but it does not let me modify my touchpad in anyway. I also found a Synaptics driver that lets me disable my touchpad manually, but it will not scroll. My touchpad is not actually recognized as a touchpad but as a "Standard Pointing Device". I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a driver that would grant me the same functionality that I had in Vista 32 or at least let my touchpad actually be recognized on my computer. It is rather annoying constantly having to switch drivers. Thank you.

If it will help my service tag is: 4Q6PMD1

Welcome to seven forums. Just for a place to start the Vista 32bit driver from Dell is one of the drivers you have explained installing, using compatibility mode to do so?Drivers and Downloads compatibility mode> right click setup.exe file>compatibility Vista>check box compatibility mode>install as administrator. Just trying to find what drivers you have tried in order ot try and find a different one. Thanks.

No matter what compatibility I try to run it under it says "This software will not work on your operating system." I've tried old Dell 32 bit drivers and those don't. I've tried the most recent Synaptics driver and that doesn't give me full functionality and I've tried v.7.105.2002.1502 and v.7.5.303.105 from the ALPS drivers page here: ALPS ALPS Touchpad Driver | Catalog - X-DRIVERS.COM: eXtremly full software portal
but those don't give me full functionality either. Can anyone help me?

Why don't you go into device manager under pointing devcies>right click on it>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id. Copy and Paste the hardware Id ,so we can know exactly what the manufacturer is and find a driver instead of randomly trying different drivers? Sound like a plan? Hopefully we can find the right one this way. Thanks Fabe

I actually managed to restore functionality with the ALPS 64 bit Vista driver. It's not the exact same but it works. Thank you.

Hi,

I have the same issue. I installed Windows 7 business edition on a Dell Inspiron 1526 for a customer. I have downloaded the ALPS vista/7 driver at the above link but would like some input before trying it out as this laptop belongs to a paying customer.

Can anyone confirm that it is safe to get drivers from x-drivers.com and that this is the correct driver?

ALPS ALPS Touchpad Driver | Catalog - X-DRIVERS.COM: eXtremly full software portal

Is there another driver that is confirmed by the SevenForums community?

Thanks

The Vista 64 Alps driver actually ended up not sometimes glitching out upon unplugging and replugging my mouse so for now I just disabled my touchpad and I only use a mouse. From my experience those drivers are all safe. I don't know if there are any particularities to the business edition of Windows 7 but those drivers ought work. I realize they have also been updated and I have not yet tried the updated drivers. If you have any great success post.

OK Blackman. Thanks. I also looked around on the forums here and at some other forums and see x-drivers.com being used a good bit for other drivers. I just wanted to ask because I'm one of those slightly paranoid users. Only slightly.

I'll post as soon as I get to try out the driver next week. BTW this is a 32 bit system but I'll still let you know if the 32bit driver works good.

No go on the Alps 32 driver

I installed the 32 bit Alps driver and it worked for a moment with no problem. But when I closed IE and opened visual studio the cursor froze. I plugged in a usb mouse and then realized the keyboard had frozen also. I couldn't do a ctrl+alt+delete for the task manager so I manually rebooted thinking it might have just been a system freeze. However after rebooting I could not log in because the mouse and keyboard were still frozen.

I had to plug in a usb keyboard and did a system restore to the previous day to get rid of the Alps Driver. Now everything is back the way it was. (no scroll but everything else working).

Thanks. I'm guessing we'll just have to wait until Dell actually updates the drivers. In the mean time I have the synaptics driver installed so I can disable my touchpad and I just use a mouse. I have a shortcut to mouse controls on my desktop so that If I need to turn it on quickly I may.
