    64-bit os:use devcon install a driver issue

    I have some questions.

my cup is pentinum(r) dual-core. The os is windows7 64 bit.
I copy the devcon.exe file from ...\devcon\ia64 to the diver folder
then I install my driver under administrator, but it notice me that:the image ...\devcon.exe is valid, but is for a mathine type other than the current machine.

Do I use the right devcon file, if not which version should it be? And is there something else should I do ?

    Thanks a lot~!!!

Welcome to Seven Forums. It would appear engish is not your native language so... Would you try and explain what Devcon is? is it a driver for a piece of hardware or a program? If it is the Devcon setup.exe file and for a 64bit Windows Operating system it should install, Unless you get an error message. Fabe

The DevCon command-line utility functions as an alternative to Device Manager

I have the exact same problem as the OP, the ia64 image is not valid.

IIUC, ia64 has to do with the Itanium processors, and so is not valid for most current PCs, right?

The i386 image seems to work, at least it runs. The devcon utility downloadable from the MS-link above is rather old. It seems that newer versions only(?) come with the Windows Driver Kit (WDK), but that means DLing, burning and installing an entire DVD, just to get that one devcon utility. Is there really no better way?

See here: Devcon not working correctly in Windows 7

Apparently for 64-bit Windows you need the correct 64-bit version of devcon. Follow the guidelines given in the post linked to above. It worked for me.
