    Adaptec SATA controller Drivers

    Hi all,

I have an adaptec sata controller card, which I was contemplating using for running my two raid drives.

I know that there are Vista 64 drivers availiable to download, and so my question is this,

will Vista 64 disk drivers work with Windows 7 Beta build 7000?

I thought i'd ask here first, as it seems silly to reformat and save disc images, reinstall etc, if someone here already knows the answer.

Also, is there a simple way transferring all the user's data and programme data if I wanted to upgrade to a newer build, as obviously backing up the disc image won't work I suppose with a newer build of 7?

    many thanks in advance.

Well, I believe that in order to be sure for that, you need to find someone who has tested this in particular.

However, in my case , most disk drivers worked across Windows platforms , including XP->Vista, and Vista->W7.

As for backing up, you just copy the user folders (Music, Pictures, Documents etc) to another location. Programs installed will have to be re-installed no matter what.

    Hope it helps.

Im not sure about the specific sata controller card your asking about, but i had a oem raid controller (hardware) that the vista drivers worked fine for in win7.
    Hope that helps!

    Aar-1430sa

The Vista drivers for my 1430SA seemed to work ok under WIN 7 until yesterday when progams started reporting the data gone from the drive that was on the 1430SA. Explorer actually showed the drive as empty. Being a skeptic, I dual booted back to XP and there was nothing wrong with the drive or the data. Rebooted to WIN 7 and data was ok for about an hour and then same story. I moved the drve to another SATA controller until Adaptec decides if they are going to do WIN 7 drivers for tthe 1430SA

thanks for that Stub, I think that I'll give it a miss till the full retail is availiable then hopefully adaptec will have developed a fully native driver.

Have you let MS know this through the feedback loop?

    smoving preferences

run windows easy transfer on your old system it will look at a windows installation and build a file of your preferences, your desktop, your application settings. You then use that file and run windows easy transfer on your newly built system and voila you have all your settings. You still have to reinstall all the programs.

Saverio, if you're running build 7000, that's a beta build. You're about to go into scheduled 2 hour shutdown mode. You should move at least to an RC build.

Vista drivers worked fine for my Areca RAID card.
