Help with updating Asus Bios  

RTM means read the manual.

Update BIOS to improve hardware support

In this situation, please try the latest BIOS. We recommend you to use AFUDOS to update BIOS. You need to unzip it to get the ROM file.

You should use the command as follows:

AFUDOS /i[biosname]

or, afudos /i A:\BIOSNAME.rom(if the BIOS file is in the floppy disk)

You can store your BIOS into a floppy disk or a hard disk with FAT format. Then, you will be able to use AFUDOS to access the BIOS ROM file.

If it is not convenient for you to use DOS and AFUDOS, you can try to use EZ Flash. You can save the BIOS file into a flash disk then boot the system and enter BIOS, then you can update your BIOS by EZ Flash which is in the BIOS Tools page. Please load the default settings in BIOS after you have succeeded updating BIOS.

Can't say anything about the paper manual, but the PDF starting from section 4-1 has detailed instructions on how to use all three methods (EZ Flash, floppy, and AsusUpdate from within Windows) as well as how to recover from a bad flash.

So I would hesitate to use it in seven unless it was included in the windows seven files available for download. Well the only reason I'm even trying this is because itunes isnt syncing or writing data to my iphone.

Another guy on the apple forums said that he updated his HP bios because it listed a fix for known sycning problems with iphones/ipods etc.

So I guess I just dont know what to do.

There doesnt seem to be an easy way to update bios in 7.

I am in the process of downloading Paragon to back up my OS. I kinda need to update my media backup, its been like a week or so, but now my free 30 trial is up for second copy, so it may have to wait now.

You may be better off that you can't easily update your BIOS.

The fact that some guy on another forum updated an HP BIOS and solved some problems means nothing in your case.

If you can't find confirmation on the ASUS site or through Google that a BIOS update will solve your problem on this Asus board, why even consider updating and beg for trouble?

Otherwise, you are just like a mechanic who replaces random parts in a car until the problem disappears.

Because being able to sync my iphone with my computer is very important for me.

And since I've had miserable problems since day 1 of installing win7 64 working properly with itunes & my iphone I'd like to shoot apple & microsoft in the face. I'm pissed and at wits end.

Near the end of that article:
"The BIOS update will help people who have the Gigabyte motherboard in their systems, but it won't help other people who have the problem, such as those with an Asus motherboard."


I take it you have tried completely uninstalling Itunes, re-downloading a fresh copy iof the 64bit installer and trying again?



Perhaps the bios update will help you. I do not know.
Just a warning to be very careful. You don't want to make the entire PC unbootable

The best place to start, if you wish to try, with "How To" or best method under Win7 64, would be the ASUS site, as they know their boards/software best :)

I will say, as I said before, I think the safest bet is a bootable USB.

Asus, apple & microsoft just **** on each other and no one cares if something as large of a feature as iphones work?

There has to be something to do. Who can I contact?

i can tell you for a fact barking up the motherboard tree regardless of who made the mobo will not solve your problem. once you have booted into your OS if you are experiencing issues with software it is either going to be either a driver for hardware including the mobo chipset driver, or software(including security software, or both. get yourself a trial copy of registry help pro. Registry Help – Registry Cleaner, Registry Scan and Repair, Regstry Compare, Registry Defragment, Registry Optimizer! use it to do a registry search for anything itunes and quicktime. with the free version you will only get to delete a few keys at a time, and regardless of the version there are a few keys that just will not delete. before running reghelp though get yourself a trial copy of your uninstaller and under tools, options, match level set it to average. now you will find itunes and quicktime listed separately. click on either one and click uninstall. if ask to reboot tell it no. now repeat for the other. you may or may not get a box pop up saying an error has occurred for some programs this is quite normal, just click ok on it. Download Trial Version i have used your uninstaller since xp just for these kinds of problems. i have used reghelp since vista because the old program i had for doing the same thing does not work with vista. my roommate manages to mess up installing quicktime / itunes every time he does a fresh install of win 7, so i end up having to go in with these two programs so i can do a fresh clean install of quicktime / itunes.

In Windows flashing is very risky. A bad flash will "brick" your MOBO.

USB flash is the safest method. It is very easy. Why get your OS involved??

Be sure to reset your BIOS to the default settings prior to flashing and do a CMOS board reset after flashing!!
