I still tried installing the HP software though. But as expected, it's not compatible with windows 7. Although, when I looked at the cd label, it's says that it supports Vista. So I guess, the software works in Vista at least. Unlike my old printer(psc 1210), it's hp software works only in XP...thanks for all your replies, I'm really glad I have a new printer now.
You are welcome.

64 bit Windows 7
64 bit Windows 7

Hey Guys,

I'm just curious was anyone able to install this printer on 64 bit windows 7? I've tried installing it with the troubleshooting tip where you make it think it's vista, or xp, and no luck. It'll just let me install the cd but it won't work, i got it to print but the format and colors weren't right. I also tried just letting it install the drivers on it's on, no luck there either. I'm assuming those of you who got it to work were on 32 bit, which btw you need to try 64 bit super fast, of course your printer might not work : P

I got it to work with windows 7 64 bit. right click on the install package, go to properties; compatibility tab; and run in compatibility mode for windows vista (service pack 2).. then run the install and it will work

Are you saying to right click on the HP icon in "computer" or where do you find the install package. So far any HP properties that I've gone to do not have a compatability tab.

Ultimate solution!!!

hello there.

i just bought a new hp deskjet f4280. i noticed that the support cd does is not compatible with windows 7. in order to install the drivers and softwares without any fuzz, this is what i did...

explore the contents of the cd ( which contains the printer driver and softwares )
look for Setup.exe , right click, then click properties, click the compatibility tab, check the " run this program in compatibility mode " check box and choose within the pull down menu " Windows Vista "
under Priviledge Level check the " Run this program as an administrator " checkbox
then click "OK"

then thats it! you can now run the setup.exe with ease and it will not prompt for compatibility error.

and if you feel that you have cheated your machine by running with compatibility mode, then you can download the latest hp deskjet f4280 driver for windows 7 in the link below... ( if you can wait for download... zzzzzz )
