    Have you tried windows update?

These are the drivers from HP http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2100&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us〈=en&product=3390949

No windows 7 driver yet. Will look around. :)

Hey I have the exact same printer and here's what's going on:
Windows already found and installed the drivers in order for the device to work (you said it yourself that the printer works) but I can't install the HP software which isn't compatible with Win 7. The thing is that you don't really need it, for scanning just use the 'Windows Fax and Scan' application found in Start-All Programs. It's very easy to use and convenient.

How exactly did you get Windows 7 to find the drivers? It can't find them on my machine, and I don't think they exist.
I did manage to install the HP bloatware from the CD (by setting all processes that ran during the install to be Vista compatible via Task Manager) but it was a waste of time. I bought this yesterday and it's going back if I can't get it working with Windows 7 by the weekend.

Hi Everyone. I'm planning to buy HP Deskjet F4280. But before I spend, I want to make sure that this particular printer works on Windows 7. Because that's the only reason I'm buying a new one. I have this old HP psc 1210 all-in-one printer that works just fine in Vista. But when I changed my OS to Windows 7, only the scanner works. Microsoft Office tools just won't recognize the printer when you try to print any document. I don't want to go back to Vista. I like Windows 7 more. :) So I prefer to spend money on a new printer instead. But I still don't want my money to go to waste in case the printer won't work in Windows 7. This may sound stupid: But would anyone just please testify that HP Deskjet F4280 prints well on Windows 7? I just really need an assurance. So as not to waste money. I don't care much about the HP Software not installing by the way. I just want the printer to really "print". Thanks very much for your help.

    confirmation

I also have a F4280. Just plugged it in, drivers installed automatically and both printer and scanner work just fine with the windows software.

And for a similar confirmation I got the same compatibility problem when trying to install th HP software.

All you have to do is unplug and then replug the usb cable. but it may not work because I have a F2120 printer so PuyPuy you can get one of these. Back to you GraemeF click add new device in control panel if nothing else works.

Hiiiiii people!!!!! I just want to share the good news! I finally bought F4280 this afternoon then tried it just now.. and it works! ha ha ha! It's like 'plug and play'. I still tried installing the HP software though. But as expected, it's not compatible with windows 7. Although, when I looked at the cd label, it's says that it supports Vista. So I guess, the software works in Vista at least. Unlike my old printer(psc 1210), it's hp software works only in XP...thanks for all your replies, I'm really glad I have a new printer now.
