After spending untold hours back and forth with Microsoft tech support, I have a solution they finally provided that works. See below.
    Dale

    1. Click Start
    2. Click Computer
    3. Click Tools (If you cannot find tools then please go ahead and hit the "Alt" button once on the keyboard)
    4. Click on Folder options
    5. Click on the tab View
    6. Under files and folders please make sure that the option "Hide empty drives in the computer folder" should be unchecked.

I have this same problem, and really need to fix it asap. I have changed all the folder view options as suggested and downloaded many drivers recomended but windows 7 continues to use the generic windows drivers. In device manager it shows the card readers as disk drives. but they will not show up in my computer with a card in or out.

I am using a gateway laptop mx7515, all drivers on the site are for windows xp only. Can any of you recomend a driver that will allow the card reader to work properly?

    Thank you so much

Tell you what worked for me ...

I've tried two different memory card readers with my destkop and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Don't see how that can be related at all to drivers as if that was the case, they wouldn't work SOME of the time.

I went and bought a cheap card reader that connects via a short USB cable and it works ALL THE TIME! And yes, it's a pain if you have to carry this around with you, but it's small enough to fit into your pocket. And, while it's kludgy, it works.
