Thanks Jimbo - I'll check it out!
I registered especially to thank you, Jimbo45. I installed the recommended driver from the list and it works. Before I had the official driver from LG for windows vista for o2micro flash card reader from LG.
Thank you!
It seems Win 7 turns off the display of empty card readers. If you want to see them go to control panel / folder options. Click view and click 'Show hidden files, folders and drives'. This will then display your card drives.
I am having this same issue with my Dell Studio XPS SD card reader. I have tried the above suggestions and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
Welcome to seven forums lm303: If you would please post the model # of your Studio XPS also the version of seven 32 or 64 bit. This will make it easier to find a driver. Also if the card reader shows up in device manager you can click on it>properties>details tab> drop down menu>hardware id. copy and paste the code. This Will also help identify the maker of the card reader. It's most likely a Ricoh or Texas instuments and a driver from somewhere else might work. Thanks.
I thank you for this thread. I dont have a problem with a laptop but with my desktop. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 86 yesterday and all my Generic USB CF, MS, SD and SM card reader slots are showing up greyed out. I didnt have this problem in Vista 32. I have a two-year old HP Pavilion V Series desktop and have been over to HP's site here in Japan but they do not provide any support for Windows 7 - or at least for my specific PC. Can anybody please suggest a solution to my problem? I have tried inserting my SD cards but like you others, it wont read them. I have followed up in the Device Manager and there doesnt seem to be any problem there.
Thanking you.
@ Mitka27 If it shows up in device manager you can go to device manager>the device>right click on properties>detials tab>drop down menu>hardware id. Copy and Paste the string and we can find a compatiblile driver for your reader. thanks. Fabe
90% of the time with dell laptops the culprit is the ricoh card controller ,visit dells support site and download the correct(vista) driver for your model and run in vista compatability mode

Try this driver it's a J Micron driver but has worked with many card readers on Windows 7
