I've made some progress with this error which i should have posted here. I managed to resolve the error 0x0000007a problem by rolling back my laptop using windows system restore. This completely sorted the problem out.
However, i have now discovered the source of the problem as it's now come back. The problem happens when i plug the printer in to my laptop via USB connection. I can only conclude that it is down to HP's USB drivers for windows 7.
Anyone know of how to sort this without having to rollback or re-install windows??

Windows 7 and HP printing problem error 0x0000007a

    Hi all,

@Pranavwanted: I have exactly the same problem.

    My scenario....
I have a HP Pavilion DV6 1216sa which i upgraded from vista to Windows 7 Home Premium. Initially I had no problems printing to my home printer. The printer is a HP Deskjet 2360 which is connected via USB to my windows XP Pro, custom build desktop. So essentially I am printing across my home network.
I get exactly the same issue when trying to print a test page....error 0x0000007a. When i print through any of my programs ie outlook, adobe acrobat, stardraw av, word, excel etc etc the software responds as if the document has printed, but it does appear in my print cue and subsequently does not print. I have deleted the printer from my devices and re-installed the driver with latest version direct from the hp website. i have also tried installing the original driver from the supplied disk that came with the printer. On top of this i have even tried connecting the printer directly to my laptop via its USB connection and it still does not work. Yet when i print from my desktop it the printer works fine. I have successfully printed from my laptop to another HP printer in my office across the network and also a brother printer across the network, but work is 100 miles away from home so i cant just go into work to print documents. I am currently having to print to pdf files, transfer them across my network to my desktop and then print them direct from there (which is a right pain in the rear end!!!)
So i called HP today and they tried to tell me that it was down to my antivirus software and my file permissions. Contact AVG they said. Get them to show you how to set permissions for all HP printer files. However, when i called AVG they said that because i was using the free version that they could not provide support without me buying a subscription. Anyway, out of curiosity i uninstalled AVG and went through the steps to reinstall my printer.........IT STILL DOESN'T WORK....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHH
Can anyone help with any suggestions as this is really beginning to annoy me.
PS Sorry for the major rant. I felt i had to explain everything that i had gone thru to try and resolve this issue.

I recently battled this same error message with Win 7 32-bit and a HP Deskjet 1220C printer. I tried removing the printer from "Devices and Printers" and reinstalling the printer to no avail. I had a hunch that removing the printer from "Devices and Printers" was not in fact removing the driver, but I was not sure how to go about doing so.

It turned out I needed to open Print Management through the search box, locate the printer in question and choose "Remove Driver Package". I then ran the automated driver installation and voila, everything was fine.

    Temp solution

I've had the exact same issue on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Absolutely could not get my C4480 to print, though scanning worked fine. Error code 0x0000007a. Tried everything.

HP Tech support walked me through a solution - use the printer driver for the HP Deskjet 990c instead. Do this by doing the following:

    - Go to control panel, Devices and printers
    - Click Add a printer
    - Select Add a local printer
    - Select the HP deskjet 990c from list. If not there, update the list and try again.
    - Select it as a default printer. Don't share it
    - Don't print test page: just select finish.

It works for me. Good luck!!
