    completing install... -->>black screen

    Hi guys,

I'm experiencing the exact same problem as sammytweekZ. I am installing windows 7 on a friends PC
    MB: Intel DP35DPM
    CPU: core 2 quad Q8200
    GFX: Nvidia 9800 GTX+ (gigabyte)
    RAM: 2x2GB A-data DDR2 800MHz
    HDD: 500GB Seagate

I also am able to install windows XP with all drivers and runs without problem, but when installing Win7 it gets to the completing installation... then 1min give or take the screen goes black and PC freezes.

    Things I've tried:

Placing the HDD into a slower machine and installing Win7 (installed fine) then placing the HDD back into the above mentioned PC hoping it would just need update of couple drivers, but it wouldn't boot. The only successful boot was in safe mode where I installed 9800GTX drivers, reset but wouldn't boot in normal, only safe mode.

Installing other RAM sticks, same problem

    Updated BIOS, same problem

Mixing BIOS settings IDE, RAID.... , same problem

Automatic repair fails stating to remove any USB devices that I may have attached recently or something along those lines.

Running an EXTENDED memory test of the 2x2GB ram in Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool and its been stuck at 21% complete with no problems for about 30 mins.

The reason I posted because the problem in this post most closely resembles my problem.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Sounds like your PSU or mobo - what PSU do you have?

    PSU is 400W CODEGEN (16A on +12V)

I know this is below the minimum recommended by the graphics card but I didn't built it and secondly it works flawlessly in XP

    BIOS update for Gigabyte 9800 GTX+ GV-N98XPZL-1GH

    hey guys solved the problem!

I got the idea from noobish who updated his BIOS W7 not detecting my 9800gtx+so a big thanks to noobish!

Seems gigabyte has had a fix for this for just over a year now
Version F12 2009/02/24 (from their website)
    -list of fixes

    1. NVIDIA Source BIOS Version: 62.92.59.00.10
    2. ECLK/MCLK is 740/1850/1000 MHz
    3. Samsung memory
    4. Add 2D/3D Frequency
    5. Fix black screen Issue after installing new driver

No.5 was the problem I was having

Also needed "VGA Tools --@BIOS" GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Graphics Accelerator - Utility to flash the BIOS in XP.

I hope this helps anyone in the same predicament.
