    Bios update and activation ??

    Hi,

I had to update my bios to fix a bug with a memory problem, update went ok but whne I booted into windows 7 I was asked to re activate windows, I had to do that a few weeks ago due to installing a new boot drive so was surprised a simple bios update triggers windows 7 to re activate, is this real of a bug on my pc ?

    Thanks,

    Mart.

If you are asked to activate you must, its real. If it is a computer bug, the bug will signal that you are not activated to MS.

If you go to computer icon and right click, on the page that appears do you see the authentic MS, symbol on the lower right? I bet you dont. Its easy to activate, if there is a problem you will be dircted to a phone number. You can activate by phone, if there are further problems, you will be directed to a person, who will activate you.

I have updated my BIOS many times and never been asked to re-activate Windows.

It must be another problem. Have you restored an image? That MIGHT do it....if it was not activated when you created the image.

Updating your BIOS should not effect Windows.....unless maybe if you did it from WITHIN Windows....I've never done that.

I, then amend my prior post, I feel that you are ok. If not, you will know in 30 days. You will get warnings, if so just activate.

    Hi,

I did use MSI live update inside windows to update the bios, never had this with xp when I did the last update, after a reboot it asks for re activate and I had only 3 days left, rebooted again and it says activated and the MS logo is showing, I wonder what happened here?

If you do not get notified to reactivate, just write it off as a temporary glitch.

Go to administratrs account type cmd

In cmd type sfc /scannow. If it is a glitch in the Software, this should correct it.

    Hi,

    Did that and got :

''Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations''

At least I've not violated my pc ..... things may change if I throw it out of the window !

    Thanks,

    Mart
