    HP deskjet 3420 no connection

    Hello
I've tried to get my old a.m. printer connected to my HP dv9040ea laptop with new windows 7 on, but no success. the old CD with the driver did not work. I've then tried out both drivers for 3500 and 3600 series, restarted even, but no actual printing, even though the printer appears as a connected printer.
what can I do to get this printer printing please?

    Hi and welcome

Did you install the driver in compatibility mode?

to do that right click the installer>properties>compatibility>check either XP or vista.

    Hello Ken
no I did not. Thank you for the hint. I've tried now but I don't know where to start the .exe
Shall I open the computer, click on the CD (I put the original CD inside) and then click on setup.exe or autorun.exe in compatiblity mode or must I do it through adding a new printer? I've tried both ways but no 3420 printer appears...
or shall I try only with the downloaded newer drivers for 3500 and 3600?
